My range counter has started to always say I've got 0 miles to go, its done it for at least a week now. Cant say it bothers me as its so inaccurate its laughable, Im just wondering if its happened to anyone else?

Hi John,

Yes this happens and has happened to me since owning the car from new.

Toyota unlike their German counterparts set the counter to 0 with 10% fuel left. It is one of their preventative measures to ensure that you don't end up with costly repair builds that could occur when you run out of fuel. Also they aren't keen on running low on fuel because of all the crap that can clog up the fuel filter.

I know if have about 50 miles left after the range goes to 0.

No I mean mine is stuck at it! Even with a full tank and 40mpg showing!

Thats never happened to me before.

You've probably already tried a reset of the counters, wonder if the Battery disconnect will reset the ECU or failing that its the dealers i think.

Sorry for the off-topic but can this be "fixed" by reprogramming or something, or is it set so from the factory and cannot be changed by the dealer?

Best regards, Alex

They can sort when it goes in for the brakes again, its never accurate anyway so Im in no rush. Guess its not all that common if you've never heard of it either

Sounds like your garage aren't too up to date on the brakes thing.

It should be a simple modification to the brake shoe. The pads are semi-metallic i believe which improves stopping performance and increases lifetime, so they will squeal from time to time even after the modification.

The squeal just gets a bit worse when there is brake dust and sometime after clutch slip the resin burns off at extreme temperature solidifies and sits on the discs. Good to keep them clean but as i mentioned, they will occasionally squeal and it should be a simple mod to do.

I had that with range counter 2 times - i guess it was when i was refueling with the ignition on. After refuel i had full tank but car showed that i had nothing. It must be some error in software

If I have an empty tank and put £10 of diesel in (very rare) the range counter will not go up, but if I fill the tank it resets itself and tends to adjust the range left as I drive around so it still says 0miles left when the tank is empty

Hi Alex,

I'm sure it is possible to re-program the ECU to take this limit off. There have been a few posts with various tricks to shut off the seatbelt beeps etc. Maybe there is a shortcut for this too but on balance i reckon it would require an ECU tweak. This won't be easy at all as i know bypassing the ECU encryption is almost impossible.
