Hello, can anyone advise please.

I have a 2000 1.3 Yaris SR and have noticed recently a vibration when driving, the steering wheel judders and moves 1 cm to left and then 1 cm to right when driving. I have looked underneath and can see nothing obvious.

I assume you've had the wheels balanced?

Braking or not braking? Straight or turning?

Sorry, not braking and driving straight....I have just noticed that there is wear to the outer edge of the front passenger side tyre, and if I take my hands from the wheel the car when driving starts to veer to the left.

Balancing seems a good place to start, however.. 2CM "1 each way" seems alot for balancing.

How many miles has your Yaris done? Also, how has it been driven ect....

Could be your front hub bearings, not expensive to replace, £20-30 a side and a few hours of your weekend.

Also, check the wheels, have you mounted a curb ect.. as you CAN buckle your alloys, seen it done plenty of times.

1, check the wheels are mounted correctley "nuts tightened"

2, check balancing "look for any missing weights"

3, check hub bearings, however usually under breaking and acceleration it will dissapear

4, check the wheels and the tyres themselfs for uneaven wear ect.. if your balancing is out, you could end up with a flat spot.

Hello, just checked both front tyres.....there is a one inch strip on the kerbside outer edge of both tyres that is worn, but the rest of the two front tyres have tread on them. ( though the passenger side tyre is more worn than the drivers side)

Hi there, my SR had a similar problem to your having. My steering wheel kept on pulling to the left and there was steering wheel vibes at 70+mph.

When i had 2 new rear tyres fitted i told them about this problem and they checked the tracking.

Turns out the tracking was miles out so this got fixed and then they did the "4 wheel aligning" and got everything as perfect as possible.

Car has been great since, no wobbles, vibes and the steering wheel is bang on centre now. ;)

Sounds like you should have yours checked out.

Got mine done at my local branch of National tyres and exhausts, and i can highly recommend them. ;)

good job!

Balancing probs usually notice more at motorway speeds.. slower not a prob, faster (?) not a prob but 60-80, vots 'o' vibes! I recon it would start all over again at a certain speed and get much worse. Not gone fast enough to find out!:rolleyes:
