My girlfriends cousin has this Subwoofer in his BMW Z3 and its outstanding for the price, so im thinking of getting it for my aygo to try and maximise the audio.

However im wondering how hard it will be to install, or should i just pay the extra to get Halfords to install it?

Hi,

I've got one of these fitted and am very pleased with as well. Loud enough to satisfy a quick bass fix. I changed the front speaker to alpines to catch up with the sub, but the original Aygo head unit was shown up for being too weak. I'd rather do the job myself and know it's (sometimes) done right. A few pointers if you fit it yourself:

-To remove the head unit you start by pulling off the fan speed control knob, unscrew the screw behind it and pull off the whole upper centre console. Carefully unclip the wires to the back of the haz light, rear de-fogger (and or air con switch)

-The wires that come with the sub have labels on them saying which speaker wire to attach it to. They hook up to the red & green wires at the back of the head unit. I simply followed the wires to the Speakers, or (for the rear speakers) you could play with the balance and fade settings of the head unit so that only one speaker operates and start cutting.

-Only 1 wire (yellow) goes to the Battery and the wiring grommet is on the passenger's side of the car. Make use of an old coat hanger as a needle and attach the power cable to it to thread it through. I cut it and re-attached this wire so I didn't have to thread the built-in fuse holder through

-The blue wire needs to attach to the "ignition off" wire at the back of the head unit. I think I remember it is the lavendar (light purple) wire. I got it wrong at first and the sub was always on and drained the Battery. You can check it hooked up correctly by watching the light on the remote control slowly go out when you turn the ignition off.

-You can tuck the wires under the gear lever console, but I removed this console (1 bolt under the small carpeted tray) and threaded the wires under the carpet, along the centre and up to the head unit

Ok, then just make sure the light on the Sub's remote control turns off when you turn off the ignition before you drive away from halford's fitting gazebo

@ Adilmon: what's the thing you've got hanging between the dasboard and the door

on the first picture? Looks a bit like the switch I have on one of my lights at home :D

That must be his dual window controls!

Or his interior light switch!

It's a switch for a dummy alarm LED fitted in the end of dash door trim. I took a flashing LED, a small drill, an old table lamp switch and spliced the power from the cable going up to the interior light. When the door is closed the switch is hidden :) The reason I fitted it in that part of the trim is because it is easily visible from outside and if I want to return it to original, that piece of trim is only £25. The garage warned me about messing with the door seal in future, as if it leaks they may refuse warranty, but I've had no problems

Why not make the LED light up automatically?

Put the positive lead on the constant power for the radio and the negative

on the SWITCHED power and the LED should light whenever the ignition is off...

hmm ive been reading this topic a few times and it seems quite easy. Its just getting the nerves to start butchering the car.

I like to have the choice. Sometimes I'd rather not draw attention to it in a larger car park and turn it on when I'm not parked at home
