Gen 7 Celica

hi all,

forgive my ignorance but i am not sure on when a celica gen 7 timing belt should be replaced.

i have a 2002 plate celica t-sport its done 82000 miles and has full toyota service history. i'm guessing this is not part of the normal servicing.

i just dont want it to go whilst driving about as i have heard it causes catastrophic damage to the engine.

i probably wont go to toyota to get it sorted as they cost a small fortune, so if anybody can reccommend a garage in and around the newcastle / middelsbrough area to do the work i would be gratefull.

many thanks

kieran

Hi kieranlee4

This is a sample of a thread reply from another Gen 7 Celica forum and confirms what I suspected

There is no timing belt on the Gen 7, there is a Timing Chain and a seperate Alternator/Power Steering/Water Pump/Aircon belt

(Called the AUX belt, located on the Driver's side of the engine)

Timing Chain good up to 80k miles, but many gen 7 owners have done over 100k or more without any problems

I also read elsewhere that if the engine is serviced at the appropriate intervals, the Timing Chain should last the life of the engine

Looks like good news
