Back Windshield Becomes Dirty When It Rains

Hi All,

Have you, auris owners, noticed that when it rains, or you cross by a zone where recently rained,

the back windshield, in fact, all the back of the car becomes dirty?

I think all this water (with dirt) is somehow spread out by the wheels also onto the car.

So, when I drive on rain, I have to turn on the wiper not necessarily to get rid of the water coming from above,

but from underneath... really annoying :(

I this because of a flaw in the design of the car or what?

This definitely should not happen with a car.

In conclusion, is there a way I could prevent this from happening?

I thought of installing some rubber or something right behind the wheels, that should be lower than the car

to stop this...

Any idea would be of great help!

Thanks!

Is this your first hatchback? ;)

Yes, but I have driven other hatchbacks (skoda fabia for example) and it doesn't happen.

At least, not that bad, to be noticeable.

After 30000km I installed genuine mudflaps (both rear and front). At lower velocity the rear has some influence but higher velocity nothing, of course.

Actually the front mudflaps have really significant advantage!

I have also noticed that the back gets more dirty on Auris than many other cars (Yaris for example)... I don't know why, maybe it's because of different aerodynamics. All I know, if you allready have installed mudflaps, you just have to live with the dirt and fight with your rear wiper against it!

Best regards, Alex

Exactly. Gets more on Auris than on the others.

I haven't bought mudflaps yet. But, after all your answers, it seems to me that this could be the best possible remedy...

My car seems pretty good...I definetely have had worse...

It is all down to aerodynamics , air flow, from all round the car not just from the underside...

As you probably are aware , as you drive you push masses of air around the car, and as you move forward you create an area or low pressure behind the car... how this mass of air pushed around the car and how it is "sucked" in by the low pressure area behind the car will have a big effect on how dirty your window gets...

mudflaps only reduce the amount of dirty water, but they are not a solution.

Other things that could help are for example:

Have you got the Toyota Motorsports Rear wing?

If you lower the car the underfloor air flow will change , also the front Toyota Motorsport chin spolier will change airflow

and a few other more complex changes could help if it was a really annoying issue.

as I say I have the rear wing the front chin spoiler and I believe the T180 is slightly lower than the standard versions... so all of this might just help matters...

I don't have any Motosport accessory on it.

Also, I do not want to lower the car, because it is lower enough for our roads...

So, I would not invest too much money in this. I think I will stick to mudflups.

And I will get used to it and that's it.

Thanks a lot for the tips!
