We are expecting a little one come early October and I'm trying to find a car seat and pram that will fit in our Aygo.

I would prefer a pram that would fit in without having to put the seats down and take the wheels off the pram. Easy and cheap are best :D

Secondly I woul prefer a travel system if possible.

So far these are my short list. Are they any good?Any other suggestions?

Bugaboo Bee

Maclaren XT Buggy

Zapp with Maxi Cos Cabrio Fix Car seat

Mamas and Papas Aria Puschair

Bebe Comfort Lola

Thanks!

Not sure if the Aygo has the ISOFIX seat fixings or not but I would always urge any [new] parent to go with one of these seats for the ultimate security on offer. Belt loops and those held in by tension are all well and good, but anchor fixings to the chassis are fit and forget. Can;t help you with choice of pushchair, but guess you could pop into TRU or M/Care and see which ones will fit.

I can recommend kiddicare.com as an Internet company from which to buy stuff from - very good service and competitive pricing [against the high street].

yes, Aygo has isofix on the rear seats

Don't know about the UK, but in The Netherlands the Aygo Access (former "Basic") does NOT have ISOfix...

Basically if the rear seatback is one piece there's no ISOfix in your Aygo.

The cars that have ISOfix also have little labels in the seams of the rear seat saying so.

Yes you are correct my Aygo has the Isofix for both of the back seats. That's why we paid to get the 5 door model Aygo. But do you know how safe the ISOFIX are in a crash? The lady at John Lewis mentioned something about if you have a plastic support under the car it would shatter....? Any feedback on that?

I have no firsthand experience with ISOfix or any kids-seating, as I have no kids.

But ISOfix is supposed to be safer since it takes out the slack a normal seatbelt would have.

The seat is secured to the body of the car with a couple of clamps, so in case of an accident

the child is immediately restrained by the seat and does not travel a couple of inches before

seatbelttensioners go off. Less travel means less accelerationa, means less deceleration.

And it's the rapid decelleration that causes injuries as far as I know...

As for the support: I think she meant a "leg" that extends under a click-on-base down to the

floor of the car; my sister has a child seat (not ISOfix) consisting of a base that gets strapped

into the car, with a support leg keeping the base level. The actual seat then clicks into the

base and can be used outside the car too to carry the child around.

I would guess that a plastic leg DOES shatter in an accident, so you'd want a metal support...

ISOFIX latches onto the chassis of the car and is thereby held in place with a positive lock mechanism. No faffing about with belts and tensions and it is THE safest method of securing your child into their child seat.

I've just come back from Mothercare and the only pram that seems to fit is the Quinny Zapp. The main issue is it only has one seat position and does not recline. Very small when folded L69 xW27xD30.

Any other alternatives?

We had a Zapp and no trouble fitting in the Aygo. It doens't recline, but for the first 9 months at least you use the chassis with the car seat - the fabric seat comes off completely. We also had a Quinny Buzz and I'm sure the chassis fitted with the wheels on, but the seat unclipped and went in the back seat.

ISOFIX sounds wonderful, but three years ago we were looking for an ISOFIX seat for the Aygo and there wasn't one available.

IIRC then ISOFIX eliminates the need to check for compatibility because you are not reliant on the seat belt and fixings fitted to each car to accommodate the car seat. ISOFIX takes away the 'maybe' aspect because it is a fitments standard. So I would not be too worried about compatibility.

Completely wrong advice ihpj - the only thing that's International Standard Organisation (ISO) approved are the clips on the car seat and the locking mechanism on the baby seat. All it means is the car has the ISO standard clips fitted.

Cars are not standard and are not designed around ISOFIX seats. Each ISOFIX seat needs type approval for any car it is to be used in, only then will the seat get car type approval. Without this there is no guarantee the seat will do it's job. It's this extensive testing which makes ISOFIX seats so expensive. Imagine how many different models of car there are, how many different models of that car, different interiors, different seats etc etc.

To complicate matters there are actually three different types of ISOFIX seats: ISOFIX base with locking seat, ISOFIX seat and base combined and tether strap ISOFIX seat - Aygos MUST use an ISOFIX seat which uses a tether strap.

Wasn't offering up advice just giving MHO (and experience).

I have never had any issues with an ISOFIX car seat not fitting any of my cars that have had ISOFIX. Thankfully my kids are now old enough to be sat in booster seats (hi-backs) so the ISOFIX issue is a non-issue for us.
