Super Glue On My Door!

★★★★★™

Recommended Posts

I have recently bought a used corolla, and the guy i bought it off didnt clean it before he sold it to me. When i looked around the car it seemed like there was bird !Removed! on the door. After i bought the car and took it for a wash the bird !Removed! was solid, and after later inspection i realised it was super glue, as it was used to glue on the door mirror.

The glue has dried solid on to the door now, and although its not visible from a distance, once you get close you can see it in all its glory.

What is the best way to remove the glue? Any ideas would be appreciated

I'd say that your best option was to use very fine wet and dry paper ( at least 1200 grit, more if you can find it ) and sand it off. Then a bit of a polish will restore the tiny scratches in the paintwork back to normal .

Valeters have tar and glue remover, try some of this Tar & Glue before you start rubbing the paintwork down.

Thanks guys, im not sure if the tar removal stuff would work, as the glue has become solid, and looks like plastic.

I have bought 1500 grit wet and dry paper, and some T-Cut, so i will have a crack with that stuff if i cant find any other solutions

just go gently with it. You're sanding the glue off, not the paint.

Take your time, use it wet and wipe it frequently with a chamois leather or microfibre cloth so you can see exactly how much more you need to do. When you can't see the outline of the glue on the ( now whitish ) door section you've got it all. The paintwork will have tiny scratches on the topcoat which will polish out with a bit of polish or Tcut ( again, plenty of water if you use T cut ).

Good luck

Please use some Fairy liquid in the water to add extra lubrication during your sanding process. Hopefully that will help you from going through the clear coat :)

Good luck

il probably finish the job by today if i have a chance to have a go at it again
