Thoughts On The 5-door As Opposed To The 3-door Version.

Three door, or 5 door? I was a young lad one. lol. I ve always had 3 door cars. My Renault 5, Fiat Cinquecento Sporting, and Peugeot 106. I guess it depends what you like, and whats practical.

To me I do prefer the Aygo in the 5 door guise. For some odd reason the rear quarter window doesnt seem to go in with the design lines of the 3 door. After looking at a few pics of the 5 door. The rear door window is much bigger and follows the roof line, and the door pillar, but what the hey. Thats just my opinion

What you might want to know about the 3 door is that the front seats dont click back to their original position. A major factor to which model you choose. It`ll be a huge inconvience if you need to use the back for passengers.

The decision is yours. :)

The 3 door should be lighter and so quicker, no ??

Also, the 5 door lets a lot of road noise in from the rear passenger windows, I'd be interested to know if the 3 door is quieter, I'd guess so.

Regards

Andy ( 5 door man )

If I need to carry more than one back seat passenger, they can get in and out the other side. :D

The tech sheet says its 10kg extra for 5 doors, 20kg extra for Multi-mode manual transmission and 70kg extra for the diesel version.

Smart car (for two) 750kg-770kg

Toyota Aygo 790kg-890kg

Toyota IQ 845kg-860kg

3 door all the way. Who cares about passengers? If they want a free lift they can climb in the other side, if they complain they can get the bus or a taxi B)

I have a Aygo Blue 2009 model on order (due in a weeks time!) and found out the other day taht they had actually ordered the 5-door version and not the 3-door version. So I was going to correct this and then thought about maybe jus having the 5-door version instead.

I was wondering what peoples thoughts and opinions were on this??

Any feedback would be appreciated.

I have ordered a 5-door Aygo Blue for the simple reason that I have a 9 week old baby and the Aygo comes with ISOfix points for the car seat. Also, I currently have a Vauxhall Tigra and putting the baby's seat in the back involves you becoming a contortionist. It was actually one of the deciding factors in me picking the 5-door.

Was in a similar dilemma when I ordered mine, went for the 5 door & don't regret it at all.

I have a 3 door and now wish I'd got the 5 door.At the time though I wanted air con and the extra for the doors pushed the cost up too much.

I'd rather have the air con but the few times I've had people in the back it's been a real faff pushing the seats forward then back and then having to adjust the seat-backs. :ffs:

Also the resale value will be better for the 5 door IMHO cos more people want them.

Depending on the car, I've always liked the look of the 3 door version more. Circumstances have always prevented me from getting, so it was a case of when getting the first new car which'll just be for me, get what looks better and what you want.

Again, cheers for the responses, looks like the majority are swaying towards 5-door! Good stuff!

Regardless of what opinions and thoughts are expressed here please make sure you have the car you want in the format you prefer. After all you will be the owner and you must like what you drive regardless of what others think of it

I think 3 door cars frequently look better but 5 doors are really far more practical :)

Whether 3 or 5 doors the Aygo is a really good looking car

Thtat is true, it has always seemed to look better than the sister cars as well. :)

Yeah, I think that just about sums it up

3-door = more pretty

5-door = more practical

For me practicality always outshines prettiness.

The facelift Citroen C1 looks like a bug

The facelift Peugeot 107 looks like a goat with braces :D

The new Aygo looks like a speeeed demon. Except it isn't. Obviously.

I wish I'd gotten the 5-door version of my Yaris!

Getting in the back is an adventure compared to my old 3-door Fiesta despite the doors being a lot longer.

In fact, the doors are *too* long - I have to be really careful if I park on a road with edge-camber or the door edge will gouge a chunk of itself into the pavement

For some reason 5-door Mk1 Yaris D4D's are really hard to find tho' :S

When I first looked at getting an Aygo I was looking at the light blue versions from the side.

The problem I found with the 5-door was that the rear window looked like an after thought, the sharp corners at the front of them just looked wrong. Perhaps they should have extended the black onto the front door over the window pillar to blend it in. This contrast would have been much less of a problem on a black Aygo though.

The 3-door the windows followed the curved style of the car a lot better, not perfectly though. There are still some angles they could have matched to tidy the rear windows better.

I quite like the angles of the 5 door rear windows. I always feel a bit claustraphobic in the back of most 3 door cars. To me, the 3 door rear windows look a bit "unfinished" and reminds me of that bit at the end of a chicken wing that no-one eats

I think the window size really matters. I know what some people are saying, that they don't particularly like the shape of the back windows in the 5-door Aygo - but their size is really good for passengers.

Cheers for the pic, great way of comparing!

I just think with it being a small car, the three door version looks better, but regardless as people have said many times, it is a good looking car.

Glad I chose the 5 door but, if the 5 door had not been available, I'd have certainly had a 3 door!

I whole heartedly agree. :D
