Hi all,

I am considering to be the owner of a Avensis and the choices rely on two offers:

- Sedan 2.0 benzine 2004 Executive with 65 000 kms, 1 owner, 1 year guarantee

- Liftback 2.0 benzine 2006 Luna with 10 300 kms, 1 owner, 2 years guarantee

Maintenances for both cars were done at the Toyota dealer and these were exchanged for buying the new model. Both are in pristine state, still smelling like new.

The sedan has Executive equipment, has leather seats and a big list of extras, smells clean and is very confortable.

The liftback has Luna equipment and is really new (2 years garantee from the dealer) and smells like it. The fifth door provides better access to the trunk.

The prices differ in €3000 and the question is, in your opinion do 65 000kms with Executive equipment and 2 years older worth than the 10 000 kms with less equipment, but completely new?

Is the maintenance of these cars very expensive?

All opinions are welcome.

Thank you all,

Sarco

It is all a matter of opinion but my view as a 2007 liftback owner is that this type of vehicle is more useful than a saloon and the newer the car the better it is. My experience with cars is that leather seats don't wear as well as cloth and unless you have multiple drivers the electric seats only get moved once. Heated seats are good on leather but cloth doesn't get as cold (or hot). Toyota cars are very reliable and the maintenace costs are good. Go for the liftback. Regards Fitter

To be honest if you have either car you should'nt have any problems as you'll have the warrentee to deal with anything that go's wrong.

If you go for the car with the one year, you can haggel an extra year into the deal, try and get the services in the deal too.65'000 is quite high

for an 04 but its not excessive, are the cars from the dealership or a private garage?

Thanks for all replies.

Both cars are from an authorized Toyota dealer. All maintenances were done there.

My car is a 2005 D4D Estate with full Toyota service history 90,200 miles on the clock and no problems to date. My first car for over 15 years, but drove loads of hire cars via work so good research before I decided to buy. Well pleased with it and will highly recommend it

Toyota made a number of changes to the Avensis over those years - some more visable tham others. In March 2005 they respecified the headlamps and clutch master cylinder due to design faults with earlier ones, so if you are thinking about going for the 2004 saloon ask if it's had these replaced - they weren't recalled, instead they were replaced under warrenty for the revised parts if the originals broke (and mine did, luckilly inside the 3 year period). Mid 2006 saw a minor face-lift (new grill/bumper and indicators on the mirrors) and also some suspension tweeks to improve handling. I hope this information is of some use to you.
