Easy To Drive 10cm Speakers And Aygo Connector

Recommended Posts

Posted

Hi forum,

Following the useful posts on here I installed a Sub woofer under my Aygo seat (well a shop did!).

I'd like to change the front Speakers now and have two quick questions:

1- Given that I'm not changing the head unit can you suggest some easy to run Speakers? Will I notice a difference given the 4w output of head unit?

2- Would this adapter (http://www.facia-adapter.co.uk/index.php?products=product&prod_id=259) mean that i don't have to cut any cables?

Many thanks,

Micro!

Thank you for the reply.

Can anyone suggest some really easy to drive 10cm Speakers?

I have an upgraded set of Speakers and an underseat active sub and would say that they work reasonably well together (see below for details). However i recetly did 2 things that made a massive difference in the sound.

1) i added blue-tak all around each speaker in the dash so as to make the front seperate from the back, this is essential to stop the sound from both sides of the Speakers mixing.

2) i added a small 2 channel amplifier that powers the front Speakers.

Clarion DXZ389RUSB, Clarion SRV313 active subwoofer, SRQ1020R coaxial powered by a genesis profile 2 amp.

Stuff bought and ready to install: DLS R6A components.

hope this is usefull

I don't understand what the blue tak does?

Can you explain this further?

I'm also still not sure what Speakers will be easy to driven from just 4w of power. Does a lower RMS rating tell you anything about the ability to drive them from just 4w?

Speakers are meant to be mounted in a hole the size of the Speakers themselves so that when they move in and out the soundwaves from the front move forward and the ones fron the back move backwards. In our cars the dash mounted Speakers are mounted in a hole bigger than the speakers therefore we get the sound from both the front and back of the speakers coming towards us, this gives a very muddled and quieter nise from the speaker.

The blue-tak is there to seperate the from and the back of the speaker.

Cheers for the info.

got my headunit and im just about to buy some Speakers off eBay :), but i just wanted to clarify on here to see if its all good.

Im looking at these speakers: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Pioneer-ts-g1002i-4-...93%3A1|294%3A50

and also this adaptor: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Adaptor-for-speaker-...93%3A1|294%3A50

Am i right in thinking that the Speakers will plug straight into the adaptor and will not require and splicing of wires etc?

Thanks peoples

(Sorry about the massive links lol)

Its pretty tricky to get into the Speakers! I searched high and low for a flexi screwdriver! I used a socket set to get them off!

I suggest 9cm Speakers thoughl or you will have trouble fitting them into the hole.

Yeah I know what ya mean, ive never even heard of a flexible screwdriver! I mighe be able to use a wrench or something though. As for the size of speaker i want, everyone else seems to use 100mm Speakers for the front in the dash, I dont want to get some 90mm ones and find they are too small to fit in the hole lol

got my new Speakers and fitted them today :)

Here are the factory ones;

New Ones;

As you can see from the second picture, I couldn't fit the 2 screws back in with the new Speakers, the tabs were offset :( I still managed to get one screw in though, and they dont rattle, but ive since put some blu-tack where the other screw should be to kill any vibration :)

I got an audio connector as suggested on this forum and meant I had no wires to cut, just plug and play :)

Have you tried rotaing the Speakers over 180º?

The "ears" aren't offset, but I think the wire connector might be binding aon the plastic beneath the dashboard.

Could also be the magnet fouling something, but it might be worth a try to spin them half a turn...

What is the size of the front Speakers you got?

Did you get 100mm like everyone or chosed 90mm?

And have you got any spec on them Pioneer Speakers?

Hi, they are Pioneer TS-G1002i and are 100mm.

Spec;

2 way, coaxial speaker with Pioneer tweeter in centre

IMPP cone

120W max power

25W nominal input power

Frequency range: 35 to 30,000Hz

Sensitivity: 87dB

There isn't a massive improvement in sound, but they don't distort at high volumes which is why I bought them because the old ones used to rattle. I wasn't expecting a huge difference in sound tbh anyway, they're only tiny :)

Do any of yous know the spec of the standard Speakers? (max power, rms etc)

They're 6 ohm, 13.3W (probably RMS as my 50W PMPO radio hasn't blown them

up yet), 10cm, 1-way paper cone, with a very tiny magnet (about 30mm or so)

Ahhh

So changing the Speakers to one with a better spec should make a difference right?

I know im planning to change mines, just like to know if theres quite a difference in say volume, sound quality etc. :)

Changing the Speakers will give you slightly better sound, but you have to keep

in mind that the OEM radio is already underpowered for the OEM Speakers,

so fitting more powerfull Speakers will sort of worsen this.

I'm still running the OEM speakers in my car, driven by a 4x45W Kenwood

and they're still alive, even though I DO abuse them from time to time by

cranking up the volume to max...

On the other side: I don't feed the speakers ANY bass: for that I've got a subwoofer...

Posted

Ahhh i wasnt gonna change the Speakers anyways until i have my headunit :)

Do you notice a different in sound quality, like if the sound is more crisp and clear etc?

Posted

I can't really reference, as my OEM radio has been

removed the day after taking delivery of the car...

Sorry...
