Leaking Oil Sump Seal

I've just had my 4 year / 40,000 miles service and been advised that my oil sump seal is leaking and will probably need replacing soon. I've not noticed any drips of oil on my drive so I'm assuming that any leak is negligable at the moment but should it get worse I was wondering if anybody's had this done and how much it cost them? I think my local dealer quoted me in excess of £200.

hello mate

firstly -- you have no seal gasket, but only silicone sealant. It's not cost a lot as stated.

Normally the sump has to be removed (after oil is drained), cleanned both sump contacting surface and cyl block contact surface, after both must be degreased by solvent. AFter to be applied silicone (it is better high temp resist one) to both surfaces. AFter have the sump sticked to the block and screw in all bolts. This job is for only 2 hours. I deem these 200 pounds are too much asked from you.

Cheers/Igor

Hi mate, i've come across this a few times on other vehicles, clean off any oil residue (if you actually find any ... LOL) then try nipping all the sump securing bolts up yourself as this may cure it and save you lots of £££££££££££'s!

Regards .... Pete.
