How Long Do Tyres Last?

Ive got a T180 and just wondering how long tyres last on other peoples car?

Currently done over 18k on these tyres, got eagle ncts on it but ive only got 3-4 mm of tread left on the fronts and the shoulders are quite worn. Just wondering if other people get over 25k for their tyres? As im off on a 3-4k mile drive for a week on friday and trying to decide if to change them before I go I get them done when I get back.

cheers si

iirc the legal limit is 1.6mm across the central 3/4 so it sounds like you are still very legal.

Fwd cars to tend to wear the shoulders especially if you turn the steering whilst the car is static.

Of course it also depends upon your general driving style (wheelspin etc.).

hello

it depends on your driveing manner :)

I ve already passed 30k (kms) and all tyres have very minor wear just on front ones.

On my present car one tyre lasted 275 miles :(

I flippin' well picked up a screw that has punctured it within 25mm of the edge and I have had to have a new tyre fitted :crybaby: :crybaby: :crybaby:

Also bear in mind that as well as your driving manner, correct tyre pressures also count. When you say the shoulders of the tyres are worn, this can occur when the pressures are too low, allowing the tyre to flex inwards in the middle of the tread, resulting in less tread on the outsides of the tyre. The opposite happens when you over-inflate the tyre, and the middle portion of the tread wears out.

For whats it worth I have just changed my T180 tyres having got 28k out of them. Still plenty of tread left mid tyre but outer edges worn.

Replaced originals with same again (Goodyear NCT) and had geometry checked. It was out (probably from new as its never been kerbed or damaged) which should give more even tread wear this time around :)

Mr T's Safety Report(!) says I've got a minimum 4mm on the fronts after 34k miles (but that's mainly motorway driving).

exactly the same. 28K out of the nct-5 on a t180 tourer, very worn on sholders. Having is checked re geometry as well.

On the motorway (M5 in my case) inside lane there are quite obvious 'indentations' on the nearside lane, presumably caused by the heavy truck brigade. These indentations are present on virtually all the unrebuilt sections of motorway between my home and Exeter, about 100miles away.

I believe that these ruts must have a significant effect on the wear on both inner and outer edges of the tyres as they are impossible to avoid completely.

No wonder there are so many middle-lane hoggers.
