Removing The Rear-windscreen Sticker

Recommended Posts

Has anyone got any tips on how to remove the sticker that the garages all seem to insist on sticking to the rear window, advertising their garage.

It has been stuck to the top middle of the window, so looking in your rear view mirror you see the sticker rather than your far horizon point (or cars in the distance on a straight road).

It's so well stuck on, like they have used super glue. Stopped off at another Toyota garage who simply said try picking it off. I am worried I will damage the rear window heater.

I am tempted to take it back and ask them to deal with it/replace the glass

Sounds a bit extreme but I know what you mean. I'm still waiting on my IQ so can't really comment but on any other previous cars I always remove it because I don't want to drive round advertising the dealer! What dealer did you get it from?

Rear window stickers are fairly easy to remove.. You may need a little tar and glue remover once done but its pretty straight forward.. Have you tried using a scraper? I also removed the "toyota" Badge.. Looks so much cleaner now!

I got it off -- I was showing off the car to a friend and we were talking about the bl**dy sticker when I noticed one corner was not quite stuck down. So slowly and carefully I started to peel. It came off in one go -- I was so happy

Its the simple things that please me! LOL

Shields Toyota in Hamilton, Lanarkshire.

We were supposed to get it at the start of June but it was delayed on the container ship(!) -- got it on Wedneday

It's lovely

DON’T use a scraper unless you want to damage the rear window heating element. Pick the corner with your finger nail as long as it isn’t over one of the wires, and slowly, in stages peel it off.

Agreed there although one shouldn't fit the dam things in the first place...

Nail varnish (Acetone) remover.... it works everytime for me

But I have to say slowly peeling it off works as well

*note

Dealers will leave the sticker off if you stipulate this before you buy :)

I did -- I was quite specific in my request. In my experience they never listen and hope you will forget about it.

I always peel them off. I have wondered though whether one could charge the dealers for advertising :)

I had a can of adhesive remover bought from Hobbycraft, the type you use to peel off sticky adhesive labels. That worked a treat. One label left a residure that acetone could not remove, only smear. The same adhesive remover got rid of that as well. Peanut and the Polo are now advertisement free!

I used the hairdryer method & that's always worked for me
