04 Solara Tire Pressure Indicator

Recommended Posts

A lot of posts recently about the Tire Pressure Warning System on the new Solara. Here is some important information from the owner's manual:

The warning system may not function properly under the following conditions: outside temperature below 32 degrees (that's nearly all of us! ), driving duration less than 5 minutes, wrong tire size, snow tires installed, different treads on the same car, improper initialization, and other reasons. See pp 136-137 of the manual.

To reset - you don't simply push the button.... Follow these directions before assuming that your system is broken:

1. Park and set the brake. Stop the engine. Adjust tire pressure so they're all the same.

2. Turn ignition to on. If the warning light blinks, push the button for a few seconds and make sure it goes out. If it doesn't go out, it needs service.

3. Push and hold reset button until the indicator light blinks 3 times. (If it doesn't blink three times, it needs service.)

4. Then, most importantly you must drive between 30 and 62 miles an hour for an hour. During this time, the roads must be dry and smooth, and only 1 or 2 passengers in the car. Initialization is not complete until this is done.

Do not push the reset button while driving.

Do not push the reset button without confirming proper inflation in each tire.

If the warning light blinks approximately 4 times per second while driving, reset the system using the procedure above.

You should know that this system will not indicate low pressure if two or more of the tires on your car gradually lose pressure over time. It detects differences between the tires. For this reason, check your tires periodically for gradual loss over time and due to cold weather.

Hope this helps some of you eliminate some of the problems.

You've GOT to be kidding!

This is what Toyota expects their customers to do to stop a warning light from coming on?

Sounds like a cumbersome work-around for a flawed design.
