How Do / Can I Disable The Keyless Remote Entry And Starter On A Corol

Is there a possibility that I can have the keyless remote disabled on a 2008 Corolla?

If so, what do I need to do?

Thanks,

Bjoern

easiest way is to drive over the remote with another car and there you go, one disabled keyless remote

How original!

Point is that I only want to open / close the car, start / stop the engine with a regular key, without the features of the remote working at all.

Is that possible?

Why do you want to disable it? What’s causing the problems? If it’s disabled how would you get in and start the car?

My grandfather with a hearing disability is really driving the car. He cannot hear if the engine is still running or not. So sometimes he leaves he car and the engine is still running. For hours.

Hence, my question is, can you just have a car key, like in the not-so-long-ago-old-days, which you actually have to put in the steering column to start / shut down the engine?

Oh right! That’s a difficult one. In that case he won’t be able to lock it either? I don’t think you can lock the doors from the outside with the engine running and the fob outside the car?

This is new technology for your grandfather so maybe he has to be instructed on the correct procedure. It’s not difficult to press a button to stop the car! Then checking to see if the revs have gone to zero and all the dash lights go off. It’s just a case of driver education. Changing to a key would be expensive.

I left a car idling for 16 hours once (I forgot about it).

Cured the missfire it had lol.

Does the remote have a Battery that can be removed?

"I left a car idling for 16 hours once (I forgot about it)." ... And that is pretty much what happens. And, no, as someone earlier stated, you can't lock the car while it's running, but if you can't hear if it's running then you sure can't hear whether it locks or not when you leave the car.

Which pretty much means that there is a running unlocked car.

With all due respect, Toyota, who comes up with a concept where you can leave a car running with unlocked doors? Why would the car not shut down and lock itself if the remote, which accesses it, is out of range?

Anyways ... it seems I have to get him a new car. Not a Toyota that is. Because, apparently, there is no solution to this.

Sad.
