Few Questions On 2002 Celica 7th Gen

Hi i jsut got my hands on a 2002 celica vvti (140) handed down to me for free from my mother (lol lucky me, im only 20). Its got about 65K miles and is the pre face lift model. with exception for the wheels being sevearly rusted/worn and the tracking being out the car is in great condition.

I got a few questions that id really appriciate if you guys could help me with ^^

-Does the 2002 vvti(140) have a cam belt or timing chain?

-Is there any known major/common problems that may occur on the car since its starting to push on the milage?

-It has no spoiler/rear wing an i really like the one on the GT model, is it possible to get one to fit on it and if so any hints were? :P

- How often should i service the car?

Some of you may hate me instantly for asking these next ones but id rly like to know.

- I'd like to make the car stand out further and have noticed most after market parts that arnt cheap and neff looking are for the GT (190) , will parts for example exhausts and air filters still fit the 140's engine and is the body of the car similar to get the side skirts and kit off the GT?

-The air filter looks like its restricted alot in its box and sometimes i can feel it staighning to breath...this could be due to it needing a service and new filter but would geting a larger/aftermarket filter to replace the big box help the car run more smoothly?

i know this is alot to ask speacialy since im new but i hope you can help me, thnx in advance :3

Hi OGSnow - Congrats on buying a nice Celica and welcome to the TOC

Now you've got a nice motor, it's obligatory to post a few pics :D

(Now why do you want your car to look like a GT? ;))

Anyway, I'll try to answer your questions as much as I can

(I won't be much help on a couple of them though)

  1. As far as I know the VVT-i engine does not have a Timing Belt, it has an internal Timing Chain and an external AUX Belt
Here's a useful link to a Similar Topic
  2. I've heard that Oil starvation was a major problem in the pre-facelift Celicas, so make sure you check your oil levels regularly
  3. GT TRD Rear Wing/Spoiler - check eBay - fitting can be a little tricky though
  4. I think servicing is every 10,000 miles or twelve months, whichever comes first
  5. Sorry, not too much help on aftermarket parts for the 140, the only bodywork I've added to my car is the TRD Rear Lip and the C1 Bonnet Scoop

  6. A good service will do no harm and a new air filter and plugs will probably make your car pull better - Has the car got a service history?

I hope this answers/helps with a couple of your queries and if I can help in any further way, please don't hesitate to ask/contact me

Good luck with your new car

Felfy

yeh it is a timing chain so no need to worry there,

aftermarket parts try www.fensport.co.uk

best thing to do in terms of the air intake is to fit an induction kit, yeh it will sound gruntyer but the 140's reali do benifit from them

Very knowledgeable and helpful people

Excellent customer service

Tip - I have to use Firefox to view their website - Internet Explorer doesn't allow me to view the parts list for some reason

ure welcome mate there amazin i just got loadsa stuf for my 190 off there spent quite little for what is a large number of parts. if you ever need any basic parts give me a bell i work at Halfords so can get trade prices so bulbs (rear) are about 33p insted of £2.49.

Be careful when upgrading the size of the rims i know the 140's will take the 17" wheel but you mite scrape with an 18 so check tyre size.

also try and invest in some good tyres it boosts handleing considerably.

felfy i forgot the name of the amazing tyre you sugested that im getting due to both you and my race instructor recomending them...was it uniroyal rain sumit or other

Uniroyal Rainsport 2

there the ones aparently for dry and wet roads there amazing with soo much grip in corners and islands in wet(drove a car round silverstone the other day with them on and round a skid pan and there well amazing you think you have 4 wheel drive lol)

ohh and thanks to FELFY for suggesting fensport to me in the first place my celica is gona kill evrything

(note: if your looking to add horsepower to your car for cheap try theese tips:

1.Tesco super petrol: (99 yes thats 99 not 97 octane!!!) ful tank of this and you feel a power increase and also get more miles for money and if you dont belive my last issue of redline tested it out saving of £200+ a year becuase of the extra mileage per tank!

2. Iridium (ngk) spark plugs bout 5-10 bhp for £20

3. induction kit up to 10bhp and a nicer sound to boot and also a performance oil filter adds about 2-5 bhp

4. super coolent aditive boosts power slightly because a cooler engine means a more efficiant engine

5 cat back system, up to 30bhp, less restriction means more power. can be expensive tho so depends what you want

hopefully those tips will help you on your way

hmm i was looking at induction kits on the site you guys suggested and am thinking of geting one but... when changing the standard filet and a light bulb (which btw was a total ***** 2 chage lol hardest light bulb eva!) i noticed theres quite alot of wiring and stuff going into the air filter/cover...when installing a induction kit what do you do with all that :S jsut cut it off or somin?

celicaGmobile.jpg < thats my baby XD as you can see the current wheels are totaly deteriorated

  • 7 months later...

im not shore what u need 2 do if its a full induction kit, but im getin a KnM filter for mine soon (just the filter) and i will have 2 keep the wires pluged in or it seems like the car is dieing an carnt breeth.

Allso i would like 2 know how 2 fit a KnM filter as thers no room in the engen bay what so ever and the stander filter seems very small.

I aint actualy looked at it propoly yet and its probly very simpul, but i need 2 do sum cuting of the original airbox so i can fit the KnM to that.

PS. love the car OGSnow exacly the same as mine, i allso have the coroded wheels :P and sounds like we both have the same iders, carnt wait for my wheels, suspenson, and spoiler.
