Just How Fast Is A Rav?

I've been quiet for various good reasons over the last few weeks.

To update those of you who have been following the RAV4 1994 number 1 machine which visited warrington...

Its now on its 3rd set of front discs in something like less than 4000 miles. Moving to Mintex pads to see how those behave, courtesy of anchorman and his contacts. That works being done this week.

Drivetrain is still much the same, but a lots happened in the engine compartment.

A lot of stuff has been tidied up, having learnt from the number 1 conversion then the number 2 conversion. A stage 2 turbo has now been fitted along with the apexi power fc and initial mapping carried out. The intercooler has been repositioned slightly and a new throttle body custom designed.

Haven't driven it yet, but the mechanics tell me the performance is awesome. The set up could give an output of 500bhp, but as the 3SGTE engine is pretty standard, then the boost is being kept down to a level which hopefully will preserve the engine yet allow the turbo to operate efficiently...balancing. The 3SGTE max output is 670bhp. Bit more then the standard 4.1 engine at 127bhp.

I think we are aiming at around 400bhp which is at the top end of the drivetrain capacity and the engines current capacity. I do have a spare engine which we will probably start rebuilding to a higher spec. Everythings looking good!! The car was fast before and it was running around 280!

Hoping to fit Cobra seat mounts to lower the seats by about 4". And looking around to get a cromalloy (spelling?) rollcage planned.

Should be interesting on the quarter mile and poor dave.m will need to put up with the noise of the beast - last twice I've seen him has been with the RAV number 2 which has a defective turbo - the bits rattle around inside the exhaust! Now number 1 has the new turbo, then number 2 will get treated to the old number 1s.

And the Previa acquisition is coming along - getting body panels changed having had a cylinder head swap. Using it to go down to Shropshire at the end of the month with faither as he won't be able to cope with number 1s acceleration.

fennies have their 3S upto around the 750bhp mark now !!!

have you got any modded internals in there yet? only asking as you say your aiming for 400bhp and the pistons (and rod bolts) will be wanting out at that level also are you using a hybrid CT turbo?

yup - its a hybrid turbo....max 500

We're expecting the rings to go just before the pistons..... hence having a spare engine! The drivetrain may be the weakest point though.

doubt it youll be saying byebye to the ringlands at about 330-350. beaware that all the hybrid CT's ive known have had problems (mainly oil seals) best not pushing them too hard. what ecu/injectors you running?

apexi power fc and we'll be keeping the boost low. Altho the hybrid is good for 500, the intention is to run at 400 max. Fair few mods on the intake side as well been done.
