The only thing wrong with my car is an annoying squeek coming from the drivers side front brake ,i was told that it will be the shim

that may have been dislodged, so if i buy some are they simple to fit ? if anyone has ever fitted them could you advise me please

i dont want to mess up my brakes also while i have the wheel off how much should be left on the pads ?

Dave. I recently changed all my brakes and disc,s all-round. When i removed the pads, there was a metal plate insert, that clipped into each caliper piston. It was not in sight until i removed the pads, and it needed to be fitted back in position before the pads were replaced.. It may be a case that they are not there, for previous owners or garages, may have omitted them. If they are missing, i would think it is a dealer job, to get them. To actually put them in is easy enough.

ok thanks is this squeeking from the brakes common with toyotas cos a couple of avensis's near where i live seem to have the same

problem, i bought some copper grease and smeared it on the back of the two pads on drivers side but its still squeeking but not as bad,

i think im going to have to take it to the dealer, are they going to want paying to sort it out? or is it covered on the warrantee?

Being a dealer, i would imagine they would charge you, unless there is a problem with the braking system. They would class the pads as consumable items. If you are happy to change the pads yourself, get the inserts, if you can, and put them in. It is not a hard thing to do. Also, how are the disc,s themselves ?, they also relate to squeeking brakes. I paid £22.00 for each new disc, which is not bad as for a part that most people ignore to fit, when overhauling the brake system. They take as much stick as the pads. Changing them is easy if doing it at the same time as the pads.

Hi there,

I took my car in recently to get it serviced and the brake pads were replaced. However since then I have had the squeeking problem which i did not mind at first as I asumed it would go away. However 3 months since then it really started to annoy me and if anything it got worse. Therefore I took the car to my nearest Toyota dealership and had them look at it. I was advised that the discs needed changing as well as the pads and since then the problem seems to have dsappeared.
