Toyota dealer in Galway city has just gone out of business. This is a big PITA as the next nearest dealer is 30 miles from where we live and both the Aygo and Rav4 are under warranty. Rang Toyota Ireland today and they are OK with servicing being done by professional garage using original Toyota parts, but fingers crossed we don't need to get anything done under warranty. This is a big shock as they were also Toyota main dealers in three other locations, and also the main dealer for BMW and Mini in Galway.

Car sales are down over 60% in Ireland, so I guess it was only a matter of time before there were some high profile casualties. I will really miss them as they were very professional and curteous to deal with, when buying from them and their after sales service. Their level of service will be hard to match. Hopefully someone will take over the dealership for Galway city area soon.

Sorry to hear that. Hopefully, as you say, someone will take over soon

Some dealers simply deserve to go under and I hope this recession claims a whole bunch of them. Not saying that yours deserved to...but I can name a few in this part of the world and it cannot be soon enough.

Know how you feel - my local dealer Loders in Dorchester closed down a little while ago out of the blue (site sold for a supermarket apparantly). My nearest is now 30 miles away in either Yeovil or Bournemouth.

I picked up my new Aygo Blue on Tuesday and today the dealer I bought from has gone bust and closed!! What would be the normal procedure now? I have an extremely minor niggle with something on the car and was waiting for them to return my call which obviously won't happen now. Do I just direct any queries to another dealership?!

Any Toyota dealer should be able to facilitate you but you should ring Toyota UK first to confirm the procedure for getting work done under warranty at a garage other than where you purchased the car. You were lucky in that you got your car before they closed. If they closed and you had paid them a deposit only, you might end up out of pocket.

I can't speak for the UK, but in The Netherlands it doesn't matter which dealer you have servicing your car.

As far as warranty work goes they just do it and then send the bill to the importer of the cars.

For SOME things they have to get permission first, but els there's no trouble what so ever.

I actually got my car at a dealer where my collegues brother worked (±50mi away), so the bartering

was pleasant and I could get the car much faster than normal, which I really needed as my Nissan

was going bust. Since then I've only been there once; to pick up a second Aygo for my collegue,

but I have my servicing done at the nearest dealer (10mi from home) and my collegue does so too

at HIS local dealer. That dealer actually is the one I get my parts from, as they're closer to where

I work, so I can pop in and out during my lunch hour...

As for paying a deposit: NEVER pay ANYTHING before collecting the car!

Also don't accept a demo so they can get your trade-in faster, as when they go broke you'll

be out of a car too: they'll take back the demo, but you won't get your trade-in back!

Your UK car has a full 3 year Toyota UK Warranty. If you have a problem, take it to any dealer and they will sort out the issue. Why would you be worried?

And this is why you should ALWAYS pay any kind of deposit by credit card!

I am not worried, I know I have the warranty and can use any dealer but you build up a relationship with the one you bought the car from. Having just picked it up there are a few little niggles that I am sure the dealer would have sorted out without question now I am going to have to start again with a new dealer that I didn't buy the car from. It isn't ideal.

Legreen - which dealer in the Midlands went bust?

Posted

It was the Brooklyn group that also had Ford dealerships. All of the Ford ones were sold on but the Toyota ones were shut.

I went to Brooklyn Worcester last week before I ordered from a different garage. They offered me a poor deal, and the saleswoman said of the manager of the rival garage "I'm suprised he's got a job." Ironic. Brooklyn used to have Citroen and Mazda dealerships too but they've long gone. When we had a Citroen, we took it to Brooklyn for a service that was so bad that we had a full refund. I never took the Citroen back there for a service again, and when I had a Mondeo I refused to use them for its service. Maybe someone will take the Toyota shops over.

The new Toyota Dealer in the Worcester area is Listers Toyota I believe. They are selling and servicing Toyotas as TGB's official Toyota Centre, from their Lexus premises in Cheltenham.

Tel: 01242 230303

The new Toyota dealer in the Worcester area is Westlands Worcester, one of 4 dealers (Worcester, Stourbridge, Bromsgrove & Hereford) that are nearer to Worcester than Listers in Cheltenham is.
