Does Anyone Like Their Auris?

Now that the Auris has been out for 2 years + does enyone like their Auris or even enjoy driving it? Have you lost all interest in your Auris that you don't even bother to clean it anymore? Or are you over the moon with it?

What would you say are its best qualities?

Thanks for all your replies - keep them coming - At least most are encouraging.

I asked this question because I owned a Corolla from new for 13 years and I had less problems with that car in all that time than I have with my Auris over the last month. My Corolla never once failed an MOT and still had the original exhaust, disc pads and brake shoes and all the original bulbs. The only things I replaced were - besides the usual service items, tyres, wipers. I had no rattles, sqeaks or knocks and the interior took the usual scuffs and kicks without a mark remaing.

Not bad eh?

I like that it looks good and sporty! The car has it's problems but is pretty good to drive and the safety level is high...

I really like mine :)

But i haven't washed for some weeks because its raining every day <_<

I like doing corners with it - its great. Could be more power cause 124hp is a bit too little

I have a 3dr T180 and TBH the only problem / fault I have is the mpg is not as good as Toyota quote but in saying that we get about 5mpg less than I thought we would get so is it really that bad?

DSCF0626.jpg

The CTR we had did less than 20mpg knocking around town in the winter and averaged about 30mpg so the average 37-39mpg we get out of the T180 is good. The main problem I think with the T/SR180 is people think it is a hot hatch so are let down and disappointed when the realise its not then they seem to really pick fault with the car. So the answer to your question is YES I would buy this car again and have no regrets.

Best car I ever owned by some distance. Fast, economical and reasonably good handling. Okay its not perfect but at this level what is.

Hi,

I think mine is the DB's, I have only had the car since May (SR180 57plate).

I love it all.

Style, colour, comfort and power.

More than happy with it, have to say, if you loved the Corolla so much, why change?

I am dissapointed in some respects... I have owned Japanese most of my driving life, this was my first toyota and as such I expected better or as good as, level of quality as nissan and Hondas of past. The amount of small niggles etc are its major let down, along with some quirks like the navi lock when driving , or attention to detail on customer needs? for example, the intelligent key door opening only applies to the drivers door, why not from the passenger side or even the tailgate lock ( I think it is a cost down) ( But Nissan Micra Intelligent Key, which has locking buttons on each of those handles...can afford it????)

Styling is sub-dued but aggressive if you look at it in detail... and that's what appeals to me, rather than a very show-off pimped motor.

As I say attention to detail and finishing are the major let downs for me...

As for reliability, currently doing as expected, in terms of performance my T180 is a ballistic missile on straight runs , on motorway runs the most comfortable hatch I have owned,... round corners it is a bit wallowy...

consumption, on a par with equivalent powered vehicles, which I queried from mates...

overall 6/10, scrape a pass.

But you would have known most of this when you was buying the car so why buy it if you dont like these points? Also Toyota offer a full refund within 30days / less than 500 miles if you dont like your car so again why keep it if its only a 6/10 at a scrape?

I will say Nissan will be going down hill quick now they have Renault controlling there production etc, I will say a zone on the hatch for the looking would have been better but its no hard ship to walk to the drivers door and unlock the car or use the key fob.

Yes, I like it and I'm gonna buy another next year. D-CAT or T180 like you pronounce it is almost ultimate sleeper, most look-a-likes are anemic 1.6:s and there's something different under the hood...

Cons: Xenons. Too unreliable and in certain winter conditions they collect snow on glasses. I'll buy next with halogens. Black colour is second. Never again. It looks good when polished, but we got dirt roads here and that's it. Silver maybe... Third is rear end. Dust and snow collector and rear wiper is too weak. Fourth is tiny fuel tank, multilink allows bigger bucket but it's so easy and cost-effective to use same unit.

Pros: Engine, steering and suspension. D-CAT is totally different car compared with barebone Auris. My wife has 1.6 and I don't really like it. Second is ergonomy. When I sit into my car, I can drive 800-1500 kms in one day. I've set seat to lowest possible position, same with steering wheel and that's it. Almost like my Amazon '66... Third is air condition. No need to care.

I really counted my next car's costs and usability, but Auris is winner. New Avensis has bad ergonomy and 2.2 is just average in that class, Lexus IS is too expensive with comparable options, BMW and other germans are overpriced, Skoda, Seat, other japanese and koreans don't give "kicks" at all and Volvo is just a Ford nowadays.

Jukka

PS I've owned or driven at least 50 different cars after low 80's and I'm not hyping for Toyota. Auris is first passenger car Toyota I've owned.

I bought it on a decisions that at this point in my life I need a diesel with a big engine that will not be stressed on long motorway commutes every day, hence 2.2 diesel on a C segment platform is perfect...and it must be mechanically reliable, to get me to work day-in day-out... on this basis it has met my expectations... but i feel to achieve this i have to compromise on the other items.

The Navi lock i have to say initially I accepted thinking it was a safety feature, so I first I accepted, but as I have had to live with it i have become increasingly annoyed... the intelligent key is purely a cost down... I bet if I buy a LHD driver door handle and fit it to my passenger side door... the CAN-BUS system will recognise it and it will work... but it costs money to fit at the factory and every penny counts...

Dont underestimate Nissan, they still function as separate comanies, keeping separate test standards and quality objective. Yes they share parts , but Nissan will not compromise quality to the extent of developing Japanese Renaults... if anything Renault will gain from getting parts which have been improved by Nissans involvement, and both will get them at cheaper costs due to economy of scales...

where's that Qashqai Brochure? :P

i was looking at a nissan navara pickup b4 the auris as i just want a powerful car that has a road presence and that returns a decent mpg. When i found out that toyota did i a lil hatchback with a engine that would rival that of a v6 diesel i immediatly changed my mind (also due to the fact that the nissan navara is having issues with its gearbox, transmission and differentials which are all very expensive items to replace). I love my t180 auris and im almost gutted that its going back to toyota next summer when my contract hire agreement ends, in which case i will prob get a toyota hilux invincible 200 which has a 3.0 diesel producing 194bhp and 435nm of torque, which consequently is the most powerful pickup you can get on the english market at present, and also because they are **** indistructable

I love my new Auris SR, I have had Rav 4's for the last 6 years & really fancied a changed as I was bored of 4x4's.

I have absolutely no regrets & love it to bits! :driving:

We have had a few extras added (exhaust, skirts, leather, pedals etc) and seem to average on 45 mpg which I am pleased with considering I do mainly short journeys.

Would I buy another one in the future......absolutely! :D Although now he SR is 'no more' I would go for the SR180 next time.

Cheers all

Louise

Unlike yourself ... the longer I have it the more I like it :D

It's got a roomy cabin, controls are all easy to get to (gear lever position is excellent), comfortable and relaxing to drive, pulls my trailer a treat, enough go for safe overtaking in normal traffic, fuel consumption is fine In its price range IMO its a very good buy.

There is nothing in the price range that is going to really impress me, I'm very happy with the Auris at the moment, can't find anything to really complain about, it pretty much covers my needs. If it proves reliable and no big expensive bits break over the next 10 years or so I'll be over the moon ... so time will tell.

I'd be interested to know how many miles you covered in your Corolla over your 12 year ownership?

I had a Peugeot for 12 years and @ 90,000 miles, in that time apart from servicing, tyres, Wiper Blades, it needed as I recall ....

1 exhaust system

1 Battery

4 sets front pads

3 sets front brake discs

1 set rear brake linings

2 track rod ends

1 bottom wishbone

1 handbrake cable

1 front wheel bearing

2 radiators .. yup 2!!

4 headlamp bulbs

1 front sidelamp bulb

1 taillamp bulb

Chassis welding twice .. once becase a tyre fitter had jacked it up smowhere really dumb and it then rusted through.

Central locking failed after about 7 years .. didn't bother to fix it

Interior light failed .. I suspect as a result of removing the central locking fuse

Hi

In answer to your question I covered 53000 miles - not a lot I know. The only let down on the car was the paint work. The car was red and with most red cars they tend to go dull and pink over the years, especially the roof and bonnet which are directly exposed to the sunlight. I thought it was a great car and the best I've had for realiability and cheap no hassle driving. I only changed it beacuase after 13 years I just fancied a change. It's hard to believe but it still had the original brake pads, but I did change the rear shoes even though they didn't require replacing and that was only because I had bought new ones before checking the condition of the old ones.

My SR180 D-CAT 2.2 is an extremely good looking car, has the gear lever in the best possible position and goes like a bat out of hell, obvioulsy always within any speed limits ..... :D

It's my first Toyota and my first diesel. It is lovely to drive and very responsive. The only snag is mine must have been made on a Friday afternoon ....!!!!

It has been back to the dealership about a dozen times in nine months for various teething troubles to be sorted from squeaky brakes (boy did they squeak) to window washers jets that couldn't quite reach the windscreen, parking sensors with a mind of their own and few other things. However, worst of all, since day one my Auris has more rattles than Mothercare ...............!!!!!!!!!

My dealership have been very good in taking it in and checking things out, but not so hot at resolving problems. I've had new glove box doors, the dash has been removed checked and replaced, apparently, and the seat belt housing in the drivers door column has had attention. It seems that just about everything that could rattle... does ... and boy is than annoying in a new car !!!

It is going back to the dealership once more tomorrow to sort even more rattles. At the moment I have had to stuff paper towels in the passenger door column seat belt mount and the front passenger's dashboard cup holder to stop the noise and the plastic sliding tray under the passenger seat is wrapped with a towel.. The only thing I have not been able to stuff is the entire centre console, which creaks and groans from the gear lever up to the vents with each and every bump in the road...........

Now have I been very unlucky or has anyone else had similar problems......?????????

Even so it is a lovelly car, but would I buy another Toyota............. ask me after tomorrow ...
