Nice! I really like that but as I said in the other topic I couldn't face it myself, especially in winter! Just need to sort those locking wheel nuts, they really stand out compared to the originals!

Super sexy I'd say! Very exotic and very good-looking, black&white -car, that's what I like. Were the rims painted at Toyota or somewhere else?

Best regards, Alex

Hi Alex (and guys) thanks for the kind comments.

The wheels were painted by Toyota garage where I bought the car from. I am well pleased with it.

As I mentioned to illegalhunter earlier, I am thinking of a tunit box and also considering the rear skirt and twin pipes, but oh so expensive from Toyota.

They are asking around £900 supplied and fitted which seems a tad expensive to me?

Cheers

Hi John,

I hear what you say ref cleaning etc, as I mentioned, I am a "saddo" as myself and younger son enjoy cleaning our cars (A Sunday ritual!!).

Will have to wait and see what the car/wheels look like once the English winter returns, but, it will just mean more cleaning!!

Best wishes

Paul

Sorry John, forgot to metion the wheel nuts, I totally agree with you, they are rubbish.

I notice its a common complaint from the forum.

As a matter of interest, when I was about to buy the car, the nuts were in a shocking state and when I asked to have them replaced, I was told "sorry, cannot do that".

They changed their mind when me and my feet were leaving the showroom!!

The reason I mentioned this was, from a car at just over 1 year old to have rusting wheel nuts is a poor state of affairs, Toyota need to clean up their act.

That said, I totally love the car, its now covered 10000 miles and is starting to lossen up nicely.

Best wishes

Paul

That's a good attitude Paul, "if my wheels get dirty, it just means more cleaning". Couldn't agree more, that's the way it has to be!

I suggest you to really consider some other options at least regarding the exhaust. Some other company will make you as good pair of pipes as Toyota,

but for more reasonable price and if you'll wish so, with a nice add-on... ...I suppose you allready guessed that I'm talking about sportier sound? ;)

I'm not sure about is it good idea to suggest also your rear skirt's paintjob to be done outside Toyota as I haven't painted anything elsewhere, excluding my 2din player facia, have to say the colour is a bit different compared to other grey-silverish (was it called antracite) parts of my console. It's ok for me as even Toyota didn't have interior colour codes for Auris, so...

But I'm going on tuesday or wednesday to "non-Toyota" company to get my front lip (universal) painted from black to my car's colour and same thing with the Defa

-engine heater's plug sticking out from the front bumper. Will tell you how it goes, bit unsure as it's not Toyota shop :!Removed!: But on the other hand... The price is 50% cheaper :yahoo:

Best regards, Alex

Yeah my wheel nuts rusted in under a couple of thousands miles I think,, Im at 10k too!

And personally I wouldn't get the rear valance and exhaust. A custom back box would be cool but Im just not keen on the valance at all, bit too fussy looking imo.

This might be a stupid question but does a back box sound different on a diesel like a petrol or is it just for the looks?

Oh yes, almost forgot... It's a diesel! So for about the same money than buying the exhaust from Toyota you could install custom whole exhaust line from the front to the back. Then an air filter and you'd get ermm, + 10-15hp... :) But here you have to make some price comparsion as I don't know about UK prices in that sphere...

IMO these mods will mean your down in net performance. Air filter will not make any differrance becuase it has a terbo and there is already enough air getting in within the performance band that is the torque band (and not the power band where it may have an effect). Your exhaust may decrease torque (not 100% sure in an oil berner but it does in a petrol car for sure) and your increase in any hp will hardly be noticeable becuase you change gear before you start to use the power band (becuase your using the torque band that may now be under 295lb ft of torque).

Car look fantastic though B)

Hi all,

thanks to you guys for your thoughts and comments, it is appreciated.

Alex, please let me know how you get on with your paint job, I do agree, at times you have to consider price v main dealers (overheads etc).

My youngest son runs a very nice Corsa C which he has modified in a very tasteful way and has found a fantastic local garage who does both mechanical and paint jobs for him. Prior to buying the SR180 I had an Avensis tourer, I took it to the same guy as my son, the servicng etc was a lot cheaper than Toyota and did not affect warranty. I am considering using him for the SR180.

John, You have got me thinking about "too fussy" ref the rear valance/exhaust, I am going to look into a custom box, (any suggestions would be welcome)thanks for the idea, appreciated.

Rick/Johan, again, not sure on sound, although I am not bothered about "big noise" ect (cos I am an an old man!!) and am happy with performance its giving at the minute, just like the car to look nice. Johan, glad you like the car.

Keep in touch guys, I am well happy chatting and getting ideas from you young guys!!

Best wishes

Paul

Custom isn't the same thing as loud :) I don't like loud neither, it makes you look stupid and will make you crazy if driving outside the city (static noise all the time).

I have backbox from Remus, special product designed for Auris. It wasn't very cheap but the sound is pretty nice. It is not too loud and you cannot really hear the difference when sitting inside the car. But if you're standing outside and the car accelerates fast or is using high revs it really sounds cool. More like a professional rally/race car (much more quiet of course), not like 15 years old BMW 316 with broken exhaust  So the sound is very sophisticated all the time, and the difference to universal becomes bigger the higher revs you use. On low ones it is a bit lower than universal, hardly noticeable. I'd say you can notice it if you really listen to it. So my exhaust sounds aren't turning heads when I'm standing at the lights. But when the lights turn green...

You're not old, you're just wiser than most of us  Actually tuning and styling your car isn't up to your age, you just have to be certain kind of person to do it. I know guys who are 19 and are driving "some red car" as they're telling me. And then there's some 50 old men who have Mitsubishi RalliARTs and Scooby WRCs and are washing and cleaning them all they long + installing different performance and styling parts too. I think cars are just great hobby and if you like them it's just the way it is and you have to continue if you like what you're doing, as there's always space for some good-looking and fast cars in the world!

Best regards, Alex

Hi Alex,

you are so kind!!! I like the "wiser" bit, much better than old, I will tell my kids that!!

back to the car, you mentioned a special design Remus backbox, was this something you enquired about or is it a case of checking out Remus website?

Any chance of seeing some pics of your car please?

Thanks

Paul

I wonder what an inwaardly rolled 3.5" single round pipe would look like, maybe slashcut as well. I'll dig out pics of ones and someone could PS it. Simpler the better imo.

Have you considered taking off the "Toyota" and "Auris" badges leaving just the SR180, it really cleans up the rear, again imo. Ive got pics of mine on here somewhere with it done.

You're welcome Paul :)

It's just a model which fits Auris... Sorry for the bad explanation in my previous message. It's listed on Remus' website, but there's nothing for 2.2 Auris, only for 1.6 and 2.0 D4D. You can see some pics of my car at my Introducing My Auris! -topic. You'll find there my exhaust and other mods aswell!

Do totally agree with you John! Big single pipes do look nice, just did not install one as I wanted something not too loud so bought mine from a company which has designed something for Auris and is know for quality systems. Another reason for ordering Remus exhaust was also that everyone doesn't have the same one. Most cars have those big single pipes so wanted something different. Found some pics of Auris with rounded and at least a bit bigger pipe than the universal one:
