Hi all, i just bought a MR2 T-Bar 1991 [1998 cc], got it through mot, problem is when I start to move the car and move off, the car jerks big time under 2000 rpm, above 2000 rpm its fine, and i have smell of petrol inside the car.

Any help would be so grateful thanx.

I kind of have the same problem. Car is very rich, and 2-3000 RPM it jerks under light moderate acceleration then you can feel the boost push the car. Same under heave accel. Im thinking its the turbo that needs to be balanced or maybe its warped... Sometimes i get really good push, sometimes i dont. Does anybody know an easy way to check the turbo for the normal maintenance?

Hi Jappybeast i have had all electrical checks, all new Leads and plugs and new rotor arm + new distributor cap.

The garage tells me i need a new Potentiometer whatever that dose, and what price is the part.

A Potentiometer (or Pot) is just a variable resistor.

I would ask what this is supposed to do. i.e. What is the sensor they want to replace.

I'd chuck a load of carb cleaner through it too .. clean out the sensors.
