Facelift Gen 7

Hi,

1st post please be gentle ! I've convinced myself that I want a Gen 7 Celica, this will be the first car I'll have bought for pleasure and not for reasons of practicality. I think I'll be going for a 140, for MPG, insurance etc., but am concerned about the oil consumption issue. At what point did the facelift with re-designed block come along and how do I identify this model ?

Thanks,

Mike.

The face lift car was introduced from the 52 plate onwards. A quick way to see the difference is to look at the front bonnet.

The pre-facelift one had the toyota Badge mounted over a hole, the facelift one had solid metal under the Badge.

As far as I am aware the oil problem was solved with the facelift model. :)

Go for the 190 if you can. I recently had a chance to buy a car for the same reasons as yourself (pleasure not practability) I was able to drive a VVTi 140 facelift Gen 7 Celica and a Celice Gen 7 VVTLi 190 T-Sport and in my personal opinion the 190 was so much more fun to drive. Admitily, the extra 50 bhp can only be reached when over 6200rpm (when you think.....I should have changed gear by now....) but its worth the wait. Its not a big whack in the back of the head when it cuts in but its enough to take you past whatever your chasing with ease...and the noise is great.

The Gen 7 is actually a very practable car with a very good size boot and ample leg room in the front. If you have idea of having passangers in the rear seats alot of the time it will remind the passenger why the driver didnt choose practability as its a bit cramped in the back. I have 2 young kids so there is planty of room for little humans.

Just had it serviced (60,000) and had to replace front discs and pads but they only cost £146 plus labour.

Deffinately go for a facelift model and all of the Gen 7 problems (oil consumption, valve bolts shearing, etc...) were cured with the facelift.

As the 190 is a free revving engine (up to 9200rpm) pick up a car with a full service history and try to get both remote keys as replacements are costly (£150 upwards from dealers)

Good luck

Hi basil57

If you can afford it, definitley go for the VVTL-i 190

(Same 1.8L engine as the 140, but with a little extra 'kick')

And if you've got the extra 'readdies', get the GT.....

Go on, you know you want one.....

Its actually a completely different engine. They dont look the same, they are actually a different CC and also nothing is interchangable between the two.

I dont know why Toyota bothered....why not just make all Gen7 ceilca's 190bhp?......
