Static After Fitting New Stereo To '04 Celica

HI,

I'm wondering if anyone can give me any advice. I have recently bought an '04 Gen 7 Celica - Red Edition and I didnt like the standard double din stereo so i purchased a new one to fit myself after looking up on this forum how to remove the old headunit. I bought an eonon 821

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...em=370214512275

and also bought a fascia and harness - both off eBay, but here is a link to what I bought as a pair

http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/toyota-cel...956199c1fa892f7

The problem I have is that after connecting everything I have static on the Speakers if I select dvd, bluetooth, ipod, aux in (although im not using that). I get the static when the key is in position 2 and I have also noticed that the static seems to increase a bit when the ignition is fully on, whislt there is also a slight whistle sort of sound.

What has confused me is that there are four connectors that go into the original standard fit double din stereo - however only two of these fit into the harness which in turn fits into the new headunit. So I am wondering if there is something else I need to buy for these two connectors or if something needs to be done to them, I am guessing I have some kind of grounding issue, but I dont know much about audio or cars to be honest. I have also looked on the internet to try and find a diagram of these four connectors and what all of the wires are but have come up blank. Everywhere I looked when looking to buy and fit a new stereo told me to buy the hasness and fascia that I did.

I know nothing is wrong with the Speakers as they were originally fine and I have tested the headunit on a friends car, as he is waiting for his new headunit and so had his wires out and everything worked fine with no static at all. His car is a hyundai and only has one connector in the back of his standard fit stereo and so the harness he bought conected all of this to the new headunit.

Can anybody help at all please

Thanks

John

You don't need to worry about those other connectors, they aren't used for standard audio - they're extra plugs for sat nav etc - just the pins aren't really used.

The one reason for static you're getting is a side effect of a cheap stereo componentry, hope that doesn't sound too snobby or anything. My advice would be to try an interference suppressor to see if you can cut the noise down. Failing that, perhaps send the stereo back under warranty and get a replacement or something different.

the whistleing your onabout is engine interferance (do you notice it when theres no music playing and you acelarate) easy to fix tho basicaly its a interferance canceler (bout £5 from halfords) you put it on the bolt on your altenator and it should cancel or considerably reduce noise.
