Avensis Towing Capability

I seem to have made the mistake of buying a 56 plate Avensis 2.0 diesel tourer for general use and towing my caravan, which is just within the 1300kg weight limit when loaded.

Car is fantastic and economical for normal use, but as a tow car, it is rubbish.

I have to work the engine quite hard in the upper rev range to maintain respectable speed and recently had a smoking clutch after having to manouvre caravan onto farm site in a very hilly area.

I am investigating getting the engine management unit re-programmed for more torque to facilitate towing.

Does anyone know if a heavy duty clutch is available or can I fit clutch from a Rav4 to prevent further clutch problems.

I don't want to sell the car as I'm bound to lose money.

Any advice would be appreciated.

You could chip the car to give more power and torque, PM Parts King as i think he may have one for your model.

As for the clutch i doubt a RAV4 item would fit, a quick scout on the web doesn't easily show a heavy duty clutch.

thanks for that - I'll try to get round the technicalities of doing a PM as I'm new to the site and not exactly a computer whiz. cheers.
