Dad and I ordered our new Yaris 3.1 TR MMt way back at the end of May..... we were told to expect it on the 17th of July.

Had a phone call this morning saying that the factory in France that makes the Yaris has gone on strike, and we wont have the car untill the middle of August :( :crybaby: :ffs: :ffs:

Apparently this goes for all new Yari's

What makes them so sure we will even have it by then????

Thats not such good news for you and your dad.

Maybe they are striking because they want more money for putting a 3.1 litre engine in a Yaris ;) :P ;)

(sorry, could not resist the chance :) )

Harsh.

Well, Toyota should have invested that cash in the UK when it had the choice back in the late 1990's and early 2000's. Can't remember when it was built now.

I hope you get it soon.

I got a delivery date on my TR proof of purchase for end of July, I already have been told, it will be 10th of August by now. But as I read your posts, I suspect it might get even further. My god, what does take them so long to build a little car like Yaris? France Valenciennes is very close to UK, ship it, put it on a lorry and within a few days it's in the dealership. But 6-7 weeks? Sick.

Shame about the delay. If yours is anything like mine you'll love it. I got the one out of the showroom. I suppose it had had peoples dirty fingers poking around it but it meant everything was sorted in a week or so.

Hope you're pleased with it when it finally arrives.

Later,

Mick.

It will be worth the wait honestly.

When you get it check the dates on the tags on the seat belts and the stickers on the headlights, you will see how new it is, fresh out of the factory and not sat on the back of a boat for a couple of months getting covered in salt water!

I was wondering if it would get transfered on to a 10 plate instead of an 09???

If the dates on the tags are old, can I somehow point that out to the dealers? It will go in chilli red with side panels and rear parking sensors. I just hope they'll put everythig in it, as promised and as in the brochure (6 Speakers, 7 airbags, 1.33l engine, chrome finish, mirrors and door handles in exterior body paint etc.)

My neighbour has one exactly the same TR as mine will be, in red, about 5 few houses away, but with no side panels and no sensors and it looks fan-tastic! So shiny, new, tasty and eye-poking red. Only thing that bothers me is that "Toyota optimal drive" sticker on the back window. Will go off as first thing. As well as name and address of the dealership on the bottom of my registration plate. Can I somewhat cover it? Grrr....

Doesn't the plate '10' start in March 2010? I'll be lucky to get the '09'. Afterwards in September '59' kicks in. It somehow looks old for me.. like 1959

I have a friend who has the SR 1.33, ordered in January built in April had it in May, can’t get any newer! Lots of stickers on various components stating when they were made. He has also removed all the dealer stickers and bought new plates without the dealer logo on them.

The 59 plate will be the 1st September 10 plate 1st of march 2010

I just got a phone call from the dealer saying, that the delivery date is scheudeled for the 10th of August, BUT until I can take the car home, I need to wait another 3 days. They say it's because the insurance and registration that can be sort out... I hate these last minute delays Grr.... and I also believe it can be done quicker, but they don't care when you'll get the car. You always get dissapointed. I want to take day off for the day I can pick up my Yaris, but at the moment I can't, I still believe it might be another 2days or so delay on it.

Btw. do you know how much does it cost to get a new rear number plate, with no dealer logo?

btw - you have to have the postcode of the supplier on your number plate - otherwise you're plate is illegal and you'll fail your next MOT...

If you get a new number plate made up to remove details of the dealer, to be legal, it will still need to have the name and post code of the company or shop who supplied the number plate.....

(that's why they're called show plates - because technically, they may not be road legal. I don't have any hangup about this but just wanted to make you aware of the risk you may be taking...)

You keep the old plates with the dealer logo for the MOT

The postcode and/or supplier on a plate just spoils it, can’t beat the clean look with a nice font.

Failure of MOT due to lack of postcode of the dealer... this couldn't be any more ridiculous. What next, failure of MOT due to bad smell inside my car? MOT stands for car safety, gas emission and road worthiness.. how does the postcode of the dealer on my plate make it safer or not? Does anyone control these idiotic rules at all? :ffs:

reece is right, old ones for MOT, new ones for the road.

Is the first MOT due after 3 years of production date?

And secondly, did you get your new car fully tanked? Or just few sips inside the tank, just to make it to the next petrol station?

All good and well Reece, but I'm sure those VOSA officers wouldn't care much if you bump into a routine patrol on a bad day! ;)

I don't argue that a clean plate is better looking, but you need to point this out to people that might not be aware of the consequences of one!

I failed an MOT years ago due to the number plate being slightly warped; the holes were too far apart (by millimetres) causing the centre of the plate to protrude ever so slightly (but only when you looked at the plate from directly above). Thing is, the same garage passed the same plate with the same bulge for the previous 3 years!

It all depends on the examiner and how anal they are being that day

Talking of number plates, was looking around my dealers and the amount of times I see that the holes on the number plates on the Yaris are in the wrong place. The bumpers have prefixed holes on the front and rear bumpers.

There is some chimp at my dealer that just screws a screw into the plate and directly in the bumper missing the pre designed holes. They aren’t even symmetrical (on the plate or the bumper) I would demand new bumpers without the optional extra of added screw holes

That's a pet hate of mine, the amount of times I've seen number plates that have been put on 'skew-whiff' /'*****-eyed' is unbelievable, even prestige cars are'nt immume to this hideous crime. To add insult to injury the chimps even screw them on using self tappers without bothering to fit the caps, ooh it makes me seethe!

Glad it’s not only me, I’m tending to home in on number plates and check their screw alignment

When I replaced my plates for ones without the dealer logo, it was like a military exercise. Workbench out, correct size drill bit, a dummy run on an old plate, tape measure then check again.

Result? Perfectly aligned plates with no extra the holes on the bodywork. OCD?

RE: MOT failure / Postcode on number plate....

I know this has drifted off the topic a bit but this interested me so I had a dig. If the link below works it's VOSAs guidance on number plates from 3 months ago. It seems to suggest that although it is a legal requirement to have the supplier's postcode on the plate you're not likely to fail your MOT because of it...

"It is not part of the MOT test to check that the registration plates supplied on or after 1st September 2001 display the BS AU 145d marking, or the name and postcode of the registration plate supplier. However, these markings are a legal requirement and you will be committing an offence if they are not displayed.

www.vosa.gov.uk/vosacorp/repository/CONT109727.pdf

The document below, also from April 2009 and a UK government website seems to suggest "A registration plate obviously not displaying the name and postcode of

the supplying outlet" is no longer a "reason for rejection" for an MOT:

http://www.businesslink.gov.uk/Transport_T...Notice_0409.pdf

I personally think a tiny postcode at the bottom of your number plate is no big deal, it's not going to make the difference between your car looking like a shed or looking ace (as the young kids say. I think).

Anyway, as I read it, you shouldn't fail your MOT now for no postcode...........BUT..........you might drive round the corner and the rozzers will be within their rights to slap you with a ticket / some points.

Please correct me if I've misread the siuation.

Later,

Mick
