Remote Locking/unlocking Not Working At All !

Hi guys, i just got a 98 avensis gs, im very happy with it but, its an older motor so has an issue or 2

i have 2 black keys ( remotes) and a grey key..

when i press lock or unock nothing happens AT ALL, no click, no beep, nothing

the batteries read as full, so i was wondering what it could be, i have trawlled through this forum but nothing quite matches my issue.

where would you guys start ?

i read on the service history that the siren was " disabled" by the garage,, ;) presubably as it was faulty,

also, there is a little red light on the dash that constantly flashes, ALL the time, i assume this is ( or was) the alarm/ imobiliser,, and thoughts greatly appreciated,

all i really want is the remore lock/unlock to work, although the imobiliser would be nice.

Regards Rob

does the central locking work when you use the key in the door? or does it work if you press the door switch?

I had one of this model and remember that the key fobs use a rolling code and get out of sync if the batteries are changed or the buttons pressed too many times when away from the car.

In the handbook it gives details of resetting the fobs to the car, I can't remember exactly but it is along the lines of open the drivers door insert key in ignition turn ignition on press and hold one button for more than ten seconds till light flashes.

This is only from memory but if you have the book it is in there.

It seems that the alarm/immobiliser has been disabled in some way and not just the remote sensor disconnected, hence the red light flashing constantly, i.e. the system SHOULD be armed when the light is flashing.

yes mate i agree, but im wondering if the alrm system can stay dissconnected and allow me to use the remote locking ?

also, i dont know where the alarm is, or weather , if i play about with it, i might immobilise my car.. that would not be good..

as far as i can read the central locking etc on these motors is ropey at best.

cheers rob

Are you looking for the alarm siren or the alarm control box, as the control box used to be under the drivers seat on my previous model
