Evening all.

I registered earlier today as I have a problem with a Yaris and was looking for some ideas. Not actually my Yaris, it's the daughters, but anyone who has a teenage daughter will know that if their car has a problem then it's passed on to you for sorting. Anyway, the engine management light was on so I said I'd make some enquiries. But that all seems a little irrelevant now.

I have a rather more pressing problem now, following the rainstorm we had this afternoon.

Ouch..... :(

Anyway. Got the car back home, the rain stopped, and I got it on the drive where I could work on it. The damage is limited to the wing (which is completely trumped), the bumper which was damaged anyway, and the headlight which needed attention because the levelling motor was knackered. So I'm on the lookout for a rear ended Yaris, or one with damage to the passenger side somewhere so I can scrounge some parts. If they were the same colour then it'll be back on the road in half an hour or so, without a trip to my mate Jasper to respray the panels. If I can get a bonnet aswell then the car will be pretty well sorted. It was minor damaged when we got it and I convinced the lass not to bother spending any money doing it up as there was a good chance she'd hit something and then it'd be a waste of money. Sometimes I wish she'd prove me wrong.

Anyway.....

Hi folks. :D

  • 2 weeks later...

Hey folks, back again. :)

Well, I hunted all over the north of England for a scrap silver Yaris to rob the bits off, but no one had one. So Cleveland Panels in Middlesbrough supplied a new wing, new top half bumper, new headlight, and new wing liner (they call it a dust guard I think), for £165 inc. vat. Second hand panels in various colours from various suppliers over the countryside would've cost me over £200, and still been the wrong colours, so I was reasonably happy with that. Also they're local and that counts for a lot in my book. It means I could go and collect to make sure that what I bought was actually what I wanted.

So, back home with the parts and made a start. I'd already stripped the damaged panels off and straightened things out as much as I could, and this was what I started with.

Then I fitted the new wing (ready primed), and half tightened the bolts.

Note the previous owner had shunted the front end and damaged the bumper support bar. That' s staying just as it is.

Then I fitted the new headlight, and with a bit of fine tuning the wing was fixed in it's final position.

Then the old bumper was split, the damaged top half removed and the bottom half cleaned & rubbed down with wet & dry, and then the new primed top half was fitted. In these pics it's only loose fitted for the photos, and will be removed to drive to the spray shop (same with the headlight). Then he'll spray it off the car, spray the new wing, and finally the whole thing can be put back together.

Then I'll need a new side repeater indicator, new mirror glass, and the small piece of trim which fits in front of the door mirror.

Will update when Jasper has had a go with the paint gun. He's due to make a start on Monday at some point.

Okay, picked her up and brought her home this afternoon. Then fitted the new bumper, wing liner, number plate, and mirror glass. Needs the tracking sorted, which is getting done on Saturday morning, and a wheel trim (or a set) to tidy the wheels up, then a side repeater and the trim from the front of the door mirror, and she should be away.
