Low-pressure Turbo?

Hi there!

Anyone out there aware of any possible addition of a small turbocharger to the IQ (the 1.0)? I have been looking around for some extra torque, but no success yet. Even spoke to a contact at Honeywell (a major turbo maker) HQ in Swiss, he just laughed...

If this is not possible, is anyone aware of engine re-mapping software? Again, I asked a supplier, they were not interested.

I'm not looking for ultimate performance, just a smoother running 1.0 engine with some low-end torque...

Keep your eye on Sally's thread. I'm sure she'll start on the greasy bits soon. :D

Blitz has demoed an iQ turbo (for the 1-litre engine) at the Tokyo Auto Salon this year. Have a word with the people at Fensport as that's where I got the information from B)

Looks like it will give around 100bhp with very little lag.

Paul.

Hi,

There seem to be a lot of Dutch companies with IQ tuning stuff - here are two I found;

http://www.bullpower.nl/chiptuning/toyota.html

http://www.ziptuning.nl/en/customchip/Toyo...-pk.html#header

The second of the two sites (Zip tuning) claim a 17 hp increase for the 1.0; from 68 up to 85 hp for 499 Euros, that's about £430.

Regards,

Ross

Useful torque increase too (91 to 130)...wonder what the new 0-60mph time is...

:help: ....anyone fluent in Dutch, who could quiz them about whether they have a UK dealer, or whether it could be done as a self-install?

Most dutch speak fluent English. ( I have Dutch Heritage but never learnt it)

Worth a try in English first to quiz them on what you want?

I been speaking to Blitz (UK off shoot)for a few months now & they done thier turbo a while ago.

But I do have to ask why you would buy a quite slow city car that is mainly about the MPG & cheap insurance/tax etc then want to make it faster with turbos hence losing most of that. Why not just get a quick small hatch in the first place? Unless you are loaded & doing it just for fun. I aint knocking it as I got a few mods just wondering.

Cant speak for tdv, but myself i will tune mine up in due course. My reasons would be because you cant buy a really quick I.Q. I have waited for the 1.33 to give it more go but i will want it faster at some point too. My reason would be i love cars and tuning is part of the ownership and reason for buying a certain car. I think think this is the best looking small car around for along time. Although an Eco car, thats not my reason for buying it at all. Many people will buy because its high MPG and free tax which is great for the pocket and the environment, and fair play to them. Others just cant leave something alone and must make it theirs (tasteful or not :P ) Others just love to be styleish and pose. Each to their own really i suppose. Oh and last reason i bought one was because its the nearest new vechicle to my classic mini i could find (people love moddin them too and they were created to get round an oil shortage problem with good MPG for their time. I.Q=classic mini to me!

Hope other people have some different views and they can explain theirs to us all. :D

Hope this gives you some idea into my reasoning :P

No, good on ya, as I said not having a go. My cars are always tuned first then made to look pretty after however with the iQ I did intend to do nothing to it at all but being an ex car modder that was bought up working at Ripspeed in the 80's I could not help myself. I have owned 7 classic Minis & worked at The Mini shop for quite a while & if you see some of my posts will notice I bought the iQ as said it was the closest thing to an original Mini I had ever driven. I too intend to speed mine up but money is my main issue as I also have a Williams & a Renault 5 to run while keeping a small zoo & living alone! Suspension was important as it handled like a pram but is miles better now so lots of overtime & lets see..... B)

Sounds like you know what your doing then ;) What about a set of 20 inch chrome spinners with under arch neons?, maybe not...

Surely chipping a car would effect the emissions?

Wouldn't it fail it's MOT test in a few years?

Just a thought...............unless someone knows better............. :)
