Yes I am aware that it is only the MMT models that are concerned within the recall... but its a worrying concern when toyota are still ignoring the problem; I know a couple of people with the problem of the accelerator of the aygo... both with the same response from toyota.... either the mats or your imagining it basically. I love my aygo but its a bit dangeours but then again I can't afford to get rid either.

I can't say anything of the legal matter for obvious reasons; I'm not looking for money I'm just loking for my car to be safe and not end up on another roundabout standing looking at the car like a plonker!

I know that very feeling - my car didn't go off road but the accelerator jammed full on one of those in-town dual carriageways in heavy traffic when it was in neutral, stopped at traffic lights. The dirty looks people gave me and honking as if I was deliberately sitting there revving my engine to be annoying was disgusting.

I really do sympathise with your position - its just not good enough. Have you tried another dealer to see if they might have a different angle on the issue?

hello havnt been on here for ages lol im abit concerned about this accelerator business , i know only the MMT are being recalled but it obviously happens on the manuals also??? my accelerator when depressed feels juddery or rough and i know thats one of the signs but its been like that from day one, does anyone else have this also???

Have not had my Aygo for that long but mine has been fine with no problems whatsoever , in fact the only car i had a sticking accelerator on was 6 month old Vauxhall Cavalier and that was down to a dodgy accelerator cable (brown pants time believe me !!!)

Did you ever get to the bottom of how Teknys got your details?

Well I wouldn't worry too much razorsharp, I don't think many Aygo manual owners have reported the problem - only weevicky I think? Correct me if I'm wrong. But Toyota have said it's only the MMT affected so the vast majority of manuals should be fine, they have a different pedal assembly apparently.

I think the non-MMT have a physical cable rather than a magnet/electronic sensor, so the only problem we should have to worry about are carpets fouling the pedals and damage to the cable.

ok after panicking i had a good look at my accelerator pedal and its a totally different set up to the ones that are affected so think im fine

Had the afternoon off so I popped around to Mr T for a quick once over.

Manual Aygo's are not suspect but they gave it an inspection and just to be safe they lubed my cable (Oo Betty).

All is well with my Blue, so apart from the drop in value and every sad in the book cracking jokes at my vehicle of choice I am sound.

I have noticed that in the service records for my Rav4 the previous owner complained about accelerator sticking, Mr T`s verdict No fault Found, possible carpet mat?????? I better watch out too.

All you can do is keep an eye on it?

Alot of cases i have read about seem to be down to people putting none standard floor mats in that arent designed to fit in the car.

So the accelerator brushes it when fully depressed and then some times causes it to lift and trap the pedal.

Not wanting to make light of the problems people are having with their cars, but Toyota seem to be getting a disproportionaly high level of press coverage with regard to their recalls. Honda have two recalls at the moment, one is for a potential fire risk in the Jazz due to faulty window switches and the other is for an airbag problem that can cause potential injury in other models. Are these spread across every news site and paper like Toyotas issues? No! Why is that?

kevin65 - I thought that myself. I'd rather pick the faulty accelerator (that's intermittent) knowing how to stop the car over a car being on fire.

It seems like other car manufacturers are getting their recalls in whilst the spotlight is on Toyota. I've always thought that the risk of car faults could happen with any manufacturer.

I think the media circus about Toyota has died down a lot though.

Well this morning; me and my dad were conveying to the service station (Toyota) for the cars to get serviced (duh), with my mum inbetween us. On the way up a hill i noticed that my car was pulling quite alot so i as I was coming down the hill I turned down the music and the car was heavy revving! Coming up to a roundabout I had to slam on the brakes to try and get the car to stop.

There were no mats and my foot wasnt on the pedal.

So i eventually got it to the garage still revving and half a tank less than when i left the house 3 miles before i gave them the keys and got the bus.

Anyone had anything similar?

aygo's only get the accelerator recall if they are the MM-T transmisson, manual aygos do not fall in to that catagory

That always intrigued me as well Gordon! Bit naughty to be honest.

Yeah, I have made the same point in my office as with all the press its getting i too have been to target of a lot of stick as i am an avid Toyota supporter.

It seems to be because Toyota are so known for quality that one minor thing apparently warrants an apocalyptic level of coverage. Rather than covering the manufacturers that all fail a lot. Its not big news if they cover that its just another fail.

Yes the 'badly fitted amp' has me interested as to how that's going to stick on the throttle. Only thing I can think of would be too many cables going through hole into the engine compartment squeezing the cable or the wires being wrapped around the wrong thing somewhere, which both sound odd.

I would have thought that to fit a high powered amp you would take a single thick wire from the +'ve of the Battery and use a hard point inside the passenger area for the -'ve/earth. You are then back to large speaker wires wrapped around either the throttle or the cable which is suprising if anyone would do this.
