Oil Warning Messages

Ive had a few random oil warning messages pop up when turning the car on, ie when going through the intial check that it does.

The oil is about halfway between the 2 dots on the dip stick so there is defo enough oil in it. Twice it was parked on a very slight incline and twice its was sat in the sun, roasting after a long ish drive (air temp circa 30°) high in the alps above 1000metres above sea level.

Is it something to worry about? Ive been checking the oil regualrly for my own peace of mind. And its only happened 3 times in the last 3000 miles of holiday driving.

I know there is an oil useage issue on the 2.2d but I was wondering if anyone knew if something else could be wrong or if I should just chalk it up to holiday gremlins?

Cheers Simon.

Hello Simon

Normally the oil leel is tested when you turn an ignition key in on position, after the engiine have strted it must be off.

In case this warning light ocasualy becomes on -- may be the oil level primer sensor contact is loosen and might be lost having given you this false signal.

It's understood you do not allow the oil level to be less than min mark. Check with wire contact first.

Cheers/Igor

I have also seen some spurious oil maintenance messages. The display reads "Oil maint. req." or similar. First time the car was brand new and only done 600km! In total I think I had the message 3 times on 50000km. One time the car was on a slight incline as well.

I did ask my garage if the knew about it, but they did not... ;)

I used to get a low oil warning on my LS400 and it was always because the oil was not right at the top of the MAX level on the dipstick. Sensitive or what?
