Hi there

Have a slight problem with a knocking sound coming from the engine on the left hand side when the car is idling , but when revs are increased above 1200 noise seems to go. The car is is an 04 d4d 110000miles and seems to be driving no differently. It has been suggested that the AirConditioinng pump is gone(after belts were checked) and i am just wondering did anyone else whose cars a/c pump went have similiar symptoms as the cost of a new pump is substantial!!! Any suggestions would be appreciated

Thanks

a local mechanic checked the belts which were ok so he suggested that the aircon pump is gone when u turn on the a/c the air blown out is not different if its not turned on, rattle seems to be in area where belts are is this where a/c pump is located??

I have had a similar problem with a D4D over the weekend (105,000). the noise has been coming from the left hand side of the engine on tick over and when i took it to a toyota garage they thought the air con compressor had gone. However when i took it back for further testing the noise had stopped. The normal way to diagnose if it is an air con compressore cuasing the problem is apparently they take the belt off, if the noise stops then it is the compressor. If it does not stop then they then move onto to check the cambelt tensoner, or the water pump as they suggested that these are the likely cause of the knocking sound.

hope this helps
