4.2 Brake Squeal

Hi Guys,

I have a very annoying squeal coming from my front drivers side brake. Have replaced the discs and pads, but its still there. I gave everything a good clean and removed all the cack from everywhere. Can't think whats causing it. It squeals slightly when moving and then louder when braking.

Any ideas?

Cheers,

Paul.

Hi mate i had the same problem with my avensis sorted it by getting a tube of copper grease and putting it on the metal side of each

offending pad worked straight away you have to put loads on just dont get it on the pad obviously.

Thanks, but have tried that one already. Still does it. Was wondering if maybe the disc could be at a slight angle causing it to rub?

i think if the disc was at an angle you would hear an on off rubbing noise is the piston pushing on the pad squarely if you have changed discs and pads seems to point to the calliper or piston

Welcome to the club Paul.

We had this just a couple of weeks ago. Just check the stainless steel clips that the pad locates in. You will probably find that one has pushed through when you fitted the pads and is just contacting the disc. Jou can usually push it back with a screwdriver but might have to whip a pad out and bend the lugs over to stop it moving. They are described as pad support plates here;

......and this photo shows them installed;

halfpastsix calls them "anti chatter springs" which is a suitable description and he correctly identified it in this post;

Thanks anchorman, sounds like a winner. Would explain that noise getting louder when braking too. The pads were not a perfect fit (went for some mintex ones) and did need a little persuasion to go in, so may have knocked the clips in a bit too far.
