hello ppl,

basically I needed some advice im currently a corolla driver but upgrading to an avensis on about a 2005 plate. Been searching and looking to pay around £5500 for a low milage one.

The main question is what are the major differences between the t2, t3 and colour collection?? as im a bit confused about this. hopefully everyone can help me out here and also if you dont mind telling me what I should look out for when going to view any avensis' in terms of common faults or what ever that would be a great help!

Thanks alot in advance

Hi,

Check out the full specs at parkers.co.uk. Basically the T2 has most things you need - like electric front windows, electric mirrors (but not heated), air con, 6 speaker stereo with controls on steering wheel, remote locking, deadlocks, ABS, power steering etc. The T3 has two guises - T3s and T3x. I'm pretty sure one of them adds climate control and the other adds sat nav instead (sorry I can't remember which is which). The extras the T3's have in general over the T2 are - alloys, a centre arm rest, heated mirrors, velour seat covering, electric back windows, maybe a sunroof. I think the colour collection has some of the extras.

I bought a T2 and miss the climate control and heated mirrors a bit (my last car had both). Other than that I can't fault the car whatsoever. Mine is a 2005 1.8 manual and it's difficult to get the mpg under 45 on the running I do. On the other hand it's not the most powerful car in the world unless you get the revs up to over 4000 or so. I suppose you can't have it both ways eh. Mine has a couple of marks on it here and there and cost £4200 with 55000 miles on it about 3 months ago from a main dealer with a service history and a warranty if it's any help to you.

A pre-facelift (2005 for eg) T3-S has extra to the T2:-

16" alloys

Satnav

T3-X has

16" alloys

Dual zone climate control

Rain sensitive wipers (a right pain IMO - no variable intermittent)

Heated and retractable exterior mirrors

Metallic-effect centre console

Front foglamps

Front headrests are pivot-adjustable as well as height adjustable

Front armrest

Leather trim steering wheel and gear knob

Electrochromatic light-sensing anti-glare rear view mirror

I believe also the alloy wheel design might differ, also the seat trim. This info was gleaned from the Avensis catalogue of the day. Face-lifted versions (mid-2006 on) may also differ (automatic light-sensing headlights, for example), but you'll have to pay more than £5500 for a low mileage example.
