4.1, 5 Door Gx - 1996 - What's This Key For.

Had the car a few days, explored most places, but I cannot find a suitable place for this key to go into, or for what purpose.

The car has alloy wheels on the road, the spares a steel one. I cannot see any locking nut(s) have been fitted, or if they where they are not there now.

I'm assume also at some time there was a zapper for the security system, there are sensors on the windscreen columns and a red 'Led' at the bottom of the facia panel, by the ash tray, but no zapper to operate the system.

PS - I've added two attachements but they haven't appeared in the Preview.

Edit - Looks like I will have to use photobucket etc to be visible in posting. Next time....

I have one of those too, and no idea where it goes. I thought it may be for a stoplock or something that a previous owner had got, and nearly threw it away. I'll keep hold of it now though until we can both figure out what it's for!!!

There will be an alarm siren under the bonnet with a small flap on it. If you open the flap you can use that key to turn the siren off.

Many thanks, another mystery solved, and for 'halfpastsix' as well.....

I use Forums in my other hobbies, they are wonderful things, saves so much time, hopefully I shall eventually be able to contribute to this Forum rather than ask Q's.

These forums are very useful, especially for a new first time owner. I've had countless questions and queries answered in only my first month! Thank's to everyone.

I'm off to go play with my alarm.

Do yourself a favour - get the immobiliser system removed if its not already cut off. Its 20 year old technology.

I had a look at the siren, and there's no flap or keyhole. Maybe it was hiding.

Talking about the immobiliser being 20 year old technology, so is the car!!!

It (the flap or plug) might not be so obvious but that is what that key is for. Maybe the sounder has been changed over the years?

I mentioned this to my wife about my wedding ring, but she didn't agree.

Mentioned it to the wrong person. See your doctor and arrange an MOT for her. Then remember your marriage vows - if you can't then you deserve her!
