Which Headlight Bulbs ?

Recommended Posts

The Headlights on My T180 give off as much usable light as two candles... I think its time to change the bulbs for something that will illuminate the road.. I read through a thread on Here that started ok but was unfathomable by page 2..

Please I would appreciate if it could be kept simple as electrics are My major weak point ...

Is it just a simple bulb swap or is it more complicated.. Links to the kit I need would be a huge bonus !!

I thank You

Wee Charlie.

I paid £27.00 / pair last week (2 pairs of H7) for nephew's Corolla = £54.00....then Amazon doing them this week for £14.00 / pair.....Charlie....I will look out Local Hero's guide to bulbs and mail it through, but search Amazon first just in case.

One of them is HB3....CANNAE MIND T'OTHER.

From that thread.........Anyway on to bulbs..for main beams you want HB3s... for dipped beams you want H11s (not H1s)..

So I need a pair of Ozram HB3s And a pair of H11s ????

Charlie mate, I swapped mine for some Ring xenon max, very similar to the night breakers mentioned above. Easy to fit & plenty of places appear to have them on offer. You can pick up a pair for around £20

Is the HB3 and H11 designation just for Ozram bulbs or does it apply to say Ring ? IE Ring HB3 ??

Thanks

55W is the legal limit mate.

For me I always pull the bulb and check what's printed on it to find the size. A couple of cars the handbook has been wrong.

Mate in this link it says standard fitment is 60W ?? http://www.toyotaownersclub.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=122987&st=15

It would seem by looking at the data that 60W is still legal ???

Are the Ring ones just as good as the Ozram ones ? They claim 100% better light and Ozram claim 90% The Ring ones are 18 quid and Ozram 32 quid ???????????????

There's a legal minimum of 30W but AFIK no upper limit. The key issue is dazzle and that's down to alignment.

Obviously, if the bulbs go over manufacturers recommendations there's a danger of overloading the electrics.

60W main beam, 55W dipped is what it states in my '08 manual

From various reviews that I have read mate I think that you are splitting hairs over which performs better. I have had my ring ones now for around 5 months with no issues and they are noticeable better than the OEM ones. thumbsup.gif

Well with the Ring ones being ones being just over 17 quid it seems that is the way to go ??

Please check this link so I'm not mis understanding ?? Thanks.

Try just the dipped beam first. I personally found main beam OK and given that they illuminate along with dipped beam, you find that road signs dazzle you back to the point of being uncomfortable.

Ignore the 90% claims. With a good set you should see an improvement but I suspect they measure the brightness with some lab machine under certain conditions so don't expect twice as bright because it doesn't work like that.

The only way you will get that kind of improvement is with a HID kit and there is a question mark about the legality and there is some wiring to do.

Thanks and a good point made out by both You and Blue Monster. I will just fit the H11s for now and see how it goes.

Last question already answered in a way... Ozram or Ring ?? Any measurable difference cos there certainly is in price and unlike those roof bars that have given Me the reputation of being an Ebineezer I feel this is not an area to make silly economies ...

Thanks Guys I genuinely appreciate Your help !!
