Look what happened today whilst at work, I was there early and the first on the carpark. Didn't notice it as I approached the car from the back and was talking to my mate as we got in the car.

They must have known they had done it, didn't even have the ball to put a note on my window. Hopefully the security cameras saw it. It is a private carpark at work.

I think one of the clips have broken, where it joins to the arch liner!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You seem rather calm... if this were me, I would be viewing the CCTV in the morning as you say. It's completely shocking at how some people are so cold hearted not to be a man (or woman) and owe up to this. Hopefully you'll get the scum caught then stand in front of him/her and question them firmly why they think they would get away with it.

If the CCTV shows nothing then there must be a car in the carpark tomorrow with your paint on it and recent damage.

I had a similar thing happen to my Mondeo years ago. I was in a school carpark and it was a council mini bus that scraped the front of mine. As I walked back to my car from the rear the other driver looked me in the eye then got back into his vehicle and drive off. I never knew for about an hour there was any damage. I managed to track him down and found his vehicle with my paint on.

I hope you get it sorted out at their expense.

Oh Mark mate, That would be such a personal affront to me.Am gutted for you.

That looks just like a tyre or rubber damage to me. Probably a delivery truck or van caught the tyre on it when turning which will cause no damage to their vehicle. Even if it is on CCTV I think you will have a battle with any company trying to prove it.

On the good side though it looks like no damage to the metal work and just a few popped clips between the wing and the bumper, Should respray quite nicely.

Bad luck though, No matter where you park, someone will find you!

Mark, such a sad sight and I can imagine how annoyed you are - I would be.

I’m no body repair specialist, but as Craig says it looks from the photos its might have been done by a tyre. A quick t-cut might get rid of a lot of the marks, the remaining scuffs might then be able to be tackled by one of those magic repair guys such as Chipsaway. The bumper clip should be easily got from your local dealer.

Years ago I has a nasty (quite deep) scuff on the rear bumper of a Vectra fixed by one of those chaps and it was invisible when done. £65 I think.

Hope you get it sorted soon, don’t let it spoil your fun.

Blooming heck, I'd be fuming compared to your rather calm posting.

Hope you manage to catch the culprit. Where does one stand in situations like this though? Police or Civil Case?

Thanks for you comments,

Believe me I am more angry and annoyed than what is coming across over the forum. Unfortunately there are no cameras covering the car parks just the perimeter fence, so it looks like they have got away scott free and I have to pay for their incompetence.

I know the bumper will clip back in to place as I have removed it several times, some of the marks will polish out, but it will still need some filler and touch up with a spray gun as some of the plastic looks to have been rubbed away.

My initial thoughts were also that it has been caused by the vehicles tyre doing the damage, and not a body to body scrape.

I’ll clean it up best I can before going for repair quotes, so it looks less for them to repair.

Keep us up to date. Great if the culprit has been caught on CCTV.

i had something similar done to mine , by my very nice neighbour , whilst i was stood on the pavement talking to another neighbour, f/n/s corner of his astra heap into the r/o/s corner of mine, while he was reversing to park . then he drove forward having another go with the middle of his car accross the rear corner of mine, so it was all around the same area as yours except at the rear. Then he legged it. chips away charged me 150 to clean it up and respray half the bumper.( i wass a repeat customer)

Sorry to see that.

It breaks my heart to see cars damaged.

'Inch high Private Eye' here.

Was it on a a Bin Emptying day,

Re-cycle or Regular Bin day?

If not just a Tyre, there Safety Rear Bumper area, having seen the Bins in the picture. But likely the tyre.

Looks different from a scrape from a big 4x4 tyre, more of just a glancing slide past by a Bin Lorry.

No bins in sight, it was in my works car park, that HGVs, vans etc. are allowed in. I was the first person in the car park at 06:40 and the last to leave at 18:30. I was parked in an end spot so no one could park on my near side, so it must have been another car or SUV type vehicle.

As I said above absolutely no way of finding out who did it as there are no cameras covering that area, and no one has reported seeing anything.

I had a customer in the other day when his wing mirror had been snapped off, it was bin day so he marched off to the council depot and blamed the bin wagon for doing the damage. Wait there a moment Sir whilst we review the bin wagon CCTV  When he was shown the tape he had to eat humble pie, the mirror was already damaged and the bin wagon went nowhere near the car, one very embarressed customer :D:

It seems the bin wagon is a regular complaint, so they have CCTV on board to prove otherwise

My cousin was a fire engine driver, he used to clip mirrors all to often on a call out, the fire service always paid up without any delay

Interesting, Didn't know people like that were using on board cameras but makes sense. Also means they can keep an eye on employees I guess in case they stop in the local greasy spoon for an hour having breakfast!

I have an on board camera in my iQ that has the facility of a record on impact with an add on power supply. Okay it will only record the forward view so in the event of a car park rear or side bump it won't be much help but I may have to think about getting that working after this thread.

There seems to be a fair few front and rear bumpers removed from iQ's on eBay. Are lots being damaged or are they left overs from the Aston Cygnet production line?

Sorry to see that, should be quite easy/inexpensive to repair though!

On another note, I was washing my car the other week and saw this huge dent/crease in the side of my car, unfortunately as its not on a removable panel, there is not much i can do about it, it wont pull out :( Photo makes it look not so bad, but someone has obviously opened their door onto my car with quite a bit of force!

Blimey, Quite a bit of force, A hell of a lot I'd have though!

Some people really are careless or just don't give a crap I think. :(

Wonder of one of those dent removal companies would be able to assist, Friend had good results with Dent Magician on his BMW estate when he got it.

I'm sorry for you two, Mark and Sally. I too have been the victim of some clumsy B'stard in a car park. Numerous small dents appear, shopping trolleys I suspect, and there are two dents similar to your's Sally, those vertical ones. I know what I would do with the culprits if I got my hands on them, or my feet up their jacksies!

Just cleaned it up a bit with traffic film remover, it does look better but will need a small amount of filler. Also the lug under the wheel arch has snapped off and what I couldn't believe is the lug under the bonnet next to the headlamp. it must have pulled the front corner a fair way out to do that, but I think it will survive with those missing.

And definitely at tyre rub.

Sally, sorry to see that, some of the places like Delete a Dent can massage those out from behind the panel, inside the car.

Never did find out who was responsible, it's going into a local body shop on Wednesday to be done £150.

Posted

Sorry to hear that, thats gutting! At least your iQ hasnt seen the bottom of a ditch, when I took it on holiday, that really did break my heart and ruin my summer, saying that, duct tape and cable ties suit the iQ well......

Posted

Oh my, I think I recall you posting that at the time. Is she all sorted now?

Posted

Half sorted, fixed her mechanically but left the panel damage, she'll probably be pretty again by the end of the month. Im sending it for a pamper at Toyota on Wednesday before the warranty runs out :)

Here in Portugal it is an all too common occurence, especially in supermarket carparks where mothers when getting a child from their car more often or not have no regard for other cars when opening their rear door resulting in a large ding (I now have several in mine) in the adjacent car. Another favourite is, instead of using the pathway they take a shortcut between cars scrapping their shopping trolleys or baby buggys along, not one, but two cars. Even if I park as far away from the entrance as possible, invariably some idiot will park next two me so closely that its impossible to get into my car using the drivers door, even if the car park is empty???

Posted

That sucks. Watching with interest to see if the culprit is brought to justice...

I do not believe it - came back to my car tonight only to find exactly the same thing has happened to mine. Really pi**ed off!
