 I have had my new car for 6 weeks, a T2 Avensis and have noticed an annoying rattle coming from behind the intsrument panel.

The car has been to dealer for this problem twice, first time not fixed but looms under dash found loose, howerver the second time they have said that it needs the track rod ends replaced as they have play and this is causing the rattle. I dissbelieve this and am wondering if anyone else has had a similar experience??

So far the T25 owners here seem to have been rattle free. This seems to be mainly a problem for the T22 owners

As it's under warranty, I'd suggest letting them do the work and see if it helps

I also have a dashboard rattle. Sometimes it sounds like it comes from the glovebox area, sometimes from the centre of the dash near the fuel information display unit. Guess i should take it back to the dealer, but my guess is they'll say they cant find anything......

Take it back anyway if it's under guarantee. It may be something as simple as the wiring loom being loose.

Not sure if it's the same noise as yours, but my3 week old T3X had a really annoying squeak which I thought was coming from the glovebox :!Removed!:

Turns out it was the trim that runs above the golvebox and includes the drinks holder and rear demister switch. It just clips on so I removed it and replaced it making sure that all of the clips were fully home.

It cured it for a week or so then came back. Eventually my dealer replaced the trim with a new one and so far I have been squeak free. Time will tell. Apparently my trim had some flashing on the moulding that was causing the problem.

Hope this helps.

Cheers

Andrew

:help: I too have various rattles and knocking noises on my new Avensis T3X, the main rattle is at the front end, my dealership tells me it requires modified parts to a motor which is attached to the stearing mechanism (they say Toyota are aware of the problem) however after a wait of over 6 weeks for the new parts and now over 10,000 miles I am well unhappy with this. The dash board also has a buzz which is especially pronouced when the car is very cold (morning particularly bad), and to add to this I also have a rattle which I think is coming from the rear off side door.

The dealership appears to be totally impotent in sorting out any of the problems and I would like to thank Toyota for a misserable 10,000 miles of owning a new Avensis, my advise to someone looking for a new car, look elsewhere!

well keep in mind that if it is something out of ordinary, it takes a while to get the parts in.

I am unaware of any TSB on rattles (so it is not common) in new Avensis and our rental one has been rattle free for a long time now. Just make sure it is not something else rattling and making you go crazy.

Quite impressed with the whole car, especially since ours is one of the first production versions and I can clearly see them changing small bits and pieces on the new ones coming in...

I took my 51' CDX D4D in for its 50K service yesterday. Whilst waiting, I noticed there was a 03 Avensis parked up in a service bay next to mine. Being nosey I looked in and there was a piece of paper stuck on the glovebox with an arrow pointing downwards with the words "rattling noice coming from here" written on it. It would seem that this is a common compliant! There was also another bit of paper with something written on it, but couldn't read it.

I have an Italian spec 2003 Avensis, and it has been rattle free so far. I have been very impressed with the build quality, especially with all the complaints I have seen regarding the previous model.

A few days ago I was worried though, a rattle was coming from the passenger side at the front in time with the stereo. I suspected the speaker or the door panel were getting loose. I continued driving, trying to find out exactly where it was coming from... until I realised that it was an empty plastic bottle in the passenger door pocket. Took it out, and I had my lovely solid, rattle-free car back again

Check for silly things before complaining to the dealer
