New Rav 4.

Hello, I've just joined and I have a question regarding tyres.

I'm considering buying a new diesel Rav 4. I notice there is no spare wheel with new Rav 4's but they come with a puncture repair kit. The dealer says after a puncture and after using the latest Toyota repair kit the tyre is repairable at a tyre repair centre. I telephoned several tyre centres and asked the question and was told each time that they didn't know about the repair kits on new Toyotas but with previous repair kits the tyres were not repairable. Does anyone know the truth of the matter please ? Has anyone had a pucture and used a repair kit ? was your tyre repairable ?

Geoff.

Hi Geoff

Welcome. I wouldent believe thing the Toyota dealer tells you. I was told run flat tyres are easy to get and can be repaired. turns out it was no to both. Also i was told about the fantastic warranty i got with my used T180. See e mail below from the sales manager after I asked him if the splits in the leather seat could be sorted (this was 10 days after I took delivery and Toyota admit the seats splits is a design fault and can be sorted. By the way, I got my car from the RMB TOYOTA GROUP, whom I wouldent trust to check my washer bottle is full after they claimed to have checked my expensive tyres pressures and 2 were dangerously low. Am i bitter??

.

I'm afraid the 30 day exchange is not that straight forward. Firstly, the car must have developed a fault that has occured whilst the customer has had the vehicle. We would then look to rectify the mechanical issue within 3 attempts. Only if all this fails, do we notify Toyota of the exchange coming into process. Toyota GB have very little to do with used car sales and leave everything down to the dealerships.

The main issue here with your car is that yes, the rip will not be covered by the warranty due to the nature of people sitting on the seat where some clothing or keys etc... could have caused the rip. Also, we can't recollect the vehicle having any damage on the seat when you collected it and you did sign a form saying that you've received the car is satisfactory condition. As part of our preparation process, we check over and view the car on several occassions making sure the car is of the highest standards and within Toyota's used car standards. We would not display a vehicle with a ripped seat as it would obviously not sell. If you had come back to us within a day or two regarding the rip, then that would have had some gravity to the issue. The fact that your coming to us after 10 days, leaves me no option but to reject your claim. The rip could have happened at any point during the last 10 days. Again, you did sign for the vehicle is satisfactory condition.

You are welcome to contact Toyota GB on this issue, who will then contact us and will tell them the same decision and why.

Hi Geoff

Welcome to the RAV4 madhouse.

I have a mate with a CRV and until quite recently I thought it had the edge on the RAV but I now have a new one and it is more than a match for the CRV. There is a new CRV and I don,t know what that is like but I can tell you this RAV is good - very good.

The Toyota information says that the tyre can be reused and I can add that info if it makes your tyre man more comfortable. Some of us have bought spare wheel (an appropriate time to tell you I have some for sale!). I am currently running around with no spare (as the majority of modern cars do) and it doesn't worry me. I will be adding the same spare wheel solution that shcm has made before so long - where is that photo shcm?

Good luck and if you do decide to have a RAV prepare for a treat. What made you decide to look elswhere?

Just for info and not to undermine Wardude who is clearly unhappy, the seat issue was fixed in 2008 and does not apply to new RAVs.

Hi. My present CRV is the current model (ES) and is a diesel. On Monday of this week I test drove a diesel Rav 4 on an 06 plate and thought it was pretty good but not quite as good as my CRV. However, I'm attracted to the Rav 4 model 2.2 D-CAT 150 which I believe is slightly more powerful than the one I drove on Monday. It has lower emissions than the diesel CRV, cheaper road tax and does more miles per gallon of diesel than the CRV. I've been offered a good part exchange price for my CRV against the new Rav 4 but I'm still a bit worried about the tyre repair kit etc in respect of the Rav 4. Tomorrow I'm off to my Honda dealer to see what they offer me against another CRV (Facelift model)

Yep, If you have a look at this post:

http://toyotaownersclub.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=107483&view=findpost&p=978209

you will see dave.m's spare wheel solution and the solution Anchs and myself made. Have to say the wheel taking up room in the boot may, admittedly, not meet some people's needs

As ever everyone has a different opinion.

I personally won't buy one without some kind of spare and buying one afterwards does not appeal.

Anchorman - did you get the auto?

(Sorry, hadn't noticed you'd changed until this thread)

I fancied the auto but it isn't available unless you have the SR which is a bit over the top and more money than I wanted to pay (read that as "get away with"). I wasn't in any hurry to have the D-CAT either so just went for the bog standard XT-R and am very happy with it. I was drawn to the auto to some extent by the notchy 6 speed gearbox but these new ones have a super smooth box so I'm very happy with it.

hello

the dealers are more polite when feel the client has good knowledges to contradict with them, on any issue.

it really helps. Cos when verdicted they think how to prove it to you :)

Good Luck/Igor
