Hello,

First is there any way to contribute to this site? Barr brown envelopes :P

I've learnt so much here I feel guilt

Now, Dumb question number 5

How do I know if my Rav4 2006 is 2WD or 4WD?

Sorry

C

Why are you sorry? That is what the forum is for.

Your RAV is both. On the front of the rear diff there is a small clutch unit that is electronically controlled. Your RAV ALWAYS sets off in 4WD but depending on throttle load and driving conditions will back the clutch off as the speed builds up until it eventually (steplessly and variably) becomes 2WD therefor saving fuel. If any wheels slip or the traction control/VSC senses that conditions need it, the 4WD will be engaged again.

You can subscribe if you wish or if you would like to use the "for sale" section.

My 2008 RAV4 is 2WD. They don't sell the 2WD version there? The easy way to tell is by the round button next to the radio. If it says "Auto LSD" it's 2WD, if it shows a 4WD lock icon, it's 4WD. Another way is to look underneath. If it's 4WD you will see a differential with axles going to the rear wheels.

Anchorman

Is that the same for the 4.2 RAVs as well or are they permanent 4WD?

The 4.2 RAVS are permanent 4WD...However they did make a 1.8 version and a member has one in Ireland and that that is only 2WD.....

Since the 2009 facelift which your models shared we have a 2WD with a 2.0l petrol engine but all the rest are 4WD with either 2.0l petrol or 2.2l diesels. As ever, our RAVs are a foot shorter with no option of a 3rd row of seats. You can have a read here;

Hey Chatters stop doing this good work for charity - you're costing me a fortune!!!

Anyone who is in work and able to spare a dime for a good cause - cough up and sponsor Chatters. It is hard work for him now he is 97 :thumbsup::toast:
