i have a 57 plate auris 2.0 d4d t spirit . that was lacking in power. low fuel consumption and not idoling as is should. i plugged a diagnostic scanner in to the car that come up with a p0400 code saying egr flow malfunction . i took the egr off to see it was full of carbon . after cleaning it ran a lot better but over the last week when i start from cold after 5 seconds the revs die and it stalls but will fire up straight away after that. has anyone had the same problem.

thanks skid

What fuel do you run it on? Not super market !Removed! I hope? Try using Shell V-Power for a few tank fulls to help blow the cr@p out of it! If still not any better use some BG244 in the fuel that I find really good...

P0400 is a EGR code but we are replacing engines in wrk cause off this code! Think there is extended warranty on your model

How many miles on the clock? Do you know that if there is an issue with the EGR valve coking up the pistons/rings you may be able to claim under the 7 year 112k extended good will that Toyota have put in place? I've not looked the TSB for your car as yet, but you could have a warranty claim here... If I were you I'd hot foot it down to the main dealer and have them check it out!...

Find a steep hill and blast up it in 2nd gear or go on a good hard motorway/country road run - This may help burn and blast out crud built up on the injectors and soot in the recirc systems...

anything is worth a try. i think it needs a blow out as it only gets round town trips at most 6 miles to work and 6 back.

thanks

many thanks to all who answered my question . i filled up with v power diesel from Shell and then thrashed the living daylights out of the old girl and boy what a difference now starts on the button and goes like a train.

skid had exactly the same issue as you. 08 plate 40k miles choked egr, rough start, got better by blasting up mway and clearnign crud out, however strongly suggest listening to toypurd as i was also noticing blue smoke on startup and took it back again on wed to be told it had drank 2.1L of oil in 1800 miles and is now having engine rebuilt under warranty as we speak

hi nduli

was your car out of warranty at the time and if so are you having the work done under the good will warranty that other members are speaking of because last year when i took my car to mr toyota for a service they asked me to do 1000 miles and bring it back as the oil was low when i took it in for the service. when i took it back after the 1000 miles they said all was fine but i am wondering now if it was

hi skid, its under extended 1 yr warranty that came with the car when we purchased in March last yr. keep checking the oil as mine went from doing ok on oil consumption to dreadful in about 3months. I wasn't expecting issues and i don't check oil that regularly but did when car seemed tappety one day and it was off the bottom, filled it up, took for major service 2 weeks later, they repaced the oil obviously as part of the service and within 5 weeks and 1800 miles it had gone and used the 2.1L. It was probably only 8 weeks for the oil consumption to rocket from the point we noticed the sluggish start. hopefully you don't have my issue but best to keep checking that dipstick.

hi there glad yours is under warranty. the dip stick on the auris is very hard to read as it drags the oil off the stick as you remove it.

agreed, apparently according to the service manager its supposed to be readable on one side or the otherits acknowledged that its always smeared up at least one side - this is what concerned me last week, couldnt get an accurate reading and thought it looked ok, in fact it was off the bottom of the dipstick..... good job it was booked in 2 days later is all i'll say, otherwise it might have been dead engine time....

I have this problem now, every other day i start it in the cold mornings or even daytime it has low revs for about 5 seconds and then either starts fine or stalls? should i just give the car a good thrashing on a motorway? Because my 3 year warrenty has expired and i dont think i have an extended warrenty? Thanks

  • 11 months later...

I had trouble starting my T-Spirit, took it into my dealer who said my Head Gasget needed doing (for free) due to the known fault. Still didn't fix the issue. Took the car back and they said I had two faulty Injectors and that all 4 should be replaced at a cost of £2000! Managed to get price down to £1000 by talking to Toyota UK.

That was about 14 months ago. Just had EGR valve replaced at cost of £400 and now they say that my engine is faulty again! I'm on a 1000 mile test drive right now, but they reckon engine will need £3000 worth of work (again).

Not happy at all.
