Xenon Headlight Bulbs

Hi,

Has anyone tried fitting xenon headlight bulb upgrades?

Im talking about the proper xenon bulbs which need a ballast, NOT the normal replacement "xenon" look bulbs you can buy for £10 from Halfords.

Im just wondering if it can be done, as the main headlight bulb shines through a "projector" type lens. I have no idea if after market xenons would work through these lens?

If anyone has done it, was it as easy as all of the eBay auctions say it is?

Any advice appreciated because Im really considering doing it!!!

Cheers

Andy ;)

Will they work; yes. Are they legal; no. Will you get prosecuted for it; probably not.

But why bother when you can probably get +80% bulbs that are legal?

I done it on my Auris. It is easy, 30 minutes to install and result is like original.

In Russia there's now legal restriction, concerning the optic and lights on the cars.. (i mean xenon replacement) - just you can't use the Blue lights as the Police and goverment cars got fitted.

NO FOLLOW MY ADVICE - it's your own risk

Got installed for headlights (nearest light only) the xenon with ultraslim blocks. Auris's lens are nice - clear and informative. used 5000K temperature very nice on the highway - and now! (due to lens) damage to the other car drivers on the road (approved by my fried, moving in front of me)

That's how the car looks at day, sorry for photo (done by phone)

Parking lights a little bit blue, than xenon, but it's better if they left yellow (were replaced with Sho-me LED's)

Cheers,

Rustem

Thanks for the replies ;)

For those that have fitted them, can I ask you 3 questions?

1 - Did you need to upgrade the headlight fuse?

2 - where did you put the balasts?

3 - Did you need to cut the dust cover at the back of the headlight? (I hope not)

Im going to order very soon, but depends on the answers to the questions above!!

Thank you,

Andy

Wow, that was quick!

Cheers mate! Did you manage to do the conversion with the headlights in place, or did you have to remove the lights for access?

Last question honest!!

1. No

2. No photo, sorry. I took off the headlights (and on the bottom on it from other side there are place for 'balasts'

3. No

It took me about 40 minutes for the first headlight to find out the solution and 10 mins for the other :)

Front bumper - no need to take off just need some plactic to remove and take off 2 by each side screws..

But actually, i like mmihin1's approach :)

No need to remove headlights. There is a lot of place.

How I do it...

Take of plastic.

And air intake.

2resizees4.th.jpg

Take of original bulb and put xenon bulb

3resizenv6.th.jpg

Connect power from original bulb to balast, and from balast to xenon bulb.

Fix balast.

And all that repeat on the right side.

Nice report! But I did it on my own - and there was poor info on Russia forum - that's why go by the way with taking off the headlights :)

You've got stock parking lights - i've replaced them with LED's - see the picture above - car looks much better then )

Thank you for report!

I think the Auris bulb fitting for dipped headlights is H1. Not sure about this though so feel free to correct me if I'm wrong. You should be able to find out from the Owners manual.

Cheers!

In the second photo, did you aim your lights really low?? They cut off like 5 meters in front of your car.
