Here is how to install Cruise Control to your Auris...

Found this instruction on Toyota Owner's Club Russia

-forum, special thanks to Andron, who took the pictures

and wrote the russian text!

I made some improvements and posted it here, enjoy...

You're gonna need two parts:

Cable

156622w.jpg

and switch

156623w.jpg

(You can see the part numbers on the pictures)

Next you have to connect the wire to the switch

156624w.jpg

After that, remove the cover caps from both sides of the wheel

After removing you will see the following:

156626w.jpg

(there is a possibility that the caps don't exist, if so, you'll see one screw on both sides of the wheel,

and should just continue to the next step)

Remove the screws (TORX 30).

Pull the airbag covers' upper side towards yourself. DO NOT disconnect the airbag's wire!

156627w.jpg

Put the switch to it's place from the inside of the right hole (or make the hole in case

you didn't do the "remove the covers from both sides of the wheel" -step because of

not having any covers.

156628w.jpg

After that just tighten the switch with two M5x10mm, not M6

screws

Under the airbag cover you'll see the connection places, the one on the right is free

156630w.jpg

Connect the wire to it

156631w.jpg

Insert the wire as it is shown on the picture below

156632w.jpg

After it's done just put everything back as it was...

Turn on the ignition and push the "ON/OFF" button

156633w.jpg

Everything is ready and working just fine!

156634w.jpg

Now all you need is a test drive... But please read how to use the Cruise Control

from your Toyota owner's guide!

You cannot install Cruise Control if your car has 4ZZ-FE -engine!!

Great contribution, and I am sure there will be quite a few people out there for whom this will be very useful.

So if you can just buy the cruise control from Toyota and a cable and then conenct them up??

That's correct!

The switch and cable come to £72.44 delivered to any UK address, overseas will be higher

Are you saying that the Cruise function is already on the car and you just need these two parts to enable it? If that is the case it seems a remarkably cheap cruise control. I am sceptical

Will this work for 1.4 D-4D Auris with Manual Transmission?

I don't know, but you will find it out by checking that the engine type isn't

4ZZ-FE, with others it should work, even if you have manual gearbox.

Other things that you should check is to look at the left from the RPM

display (on the upper side of the handbrake -light)

in a sunshine or by pointing there with lamp, if you'll see there

the text "cruise" (which lights up when the controller is installed and

is shown on the last photo of my instructions), then

you should have the option available.

But this is not 100% sure information, so please check the availibility

of cruise control to your model also from your Toyota dealer or from the

user's manual. Good luck to you!

It is a fact that every Auris has Cruise pre-installed because they have the green "cruise" -light on the dashboard (or whatever, you know, at the left side on the speed/rpm display...) You can see it by looking in good lightning. So I think if there's a pre-installed Cruise in the car, the whole operation isn't very difficult if you want to install the cruise afterwards. It's just that the dealers make a lot of money by doing the installation themselves, because no-one really knows what do they do and how easy or difficult the installation really is!

It is quite normal for some car manufacturers to fit the things (almost) but deactivate them and enable when you pay extra. That lower the manufacturing cost I believe. That way it took only few minutes to have heated mirrors in some older VAGs (all the cabling was there) or heated seats on some Volvo models. Computer that regulates the throttle has probably CC options programmed in so it is just a matter to hook up into it (I am guessing).

Thank you for the detailed reply brother!

I checked the manual, my engine is 1ND-TV.

Then I went to garage and looked at the display with a flashlight, I definitely could read the CRUISE. :)

Then I checked my steering column for the caps you said. I have one right under the star screw, near the ignition. :D

So this means I can install cruise control, yes?

Ok I have a base model 1.8 litre Auris (Corolla in Australia) and I called the dealer to ask about the cruise control and he quoted me $5000 :o

I said can't I just buy the lever and install it after, he said that apparently Id need to change computer modules in the car and I am better off buying after market cruise control.

Is he for real?

As well as the steering wheel control the cruise control needs to know when any of the pedals are being pressed. If you press the clutch or brake when the cruise control is on it should cancel the cruise. If you press the accelerator with cruise control on it should let you accelerate and then resume cruise after you release the pedal. Even if the sensors are already in place for all of the pedals is the software that sends this information to the cruise control system enabled?

It sounds like you can go for it... Great to hear that your car has these options, so you have the chance to install Cruise!

I've just read on the russian forum, that when you press the clutch, the Cruise is disabled... But it is not a big problem,

because usually you use the same gear on the high speeds and don't change gears!

Look at the last picture on the first installation instruction post... You should use M5x10mm screws for tightening the switch instead of M6x10mm screws!!! Sorry for the mistake.

Hi, I have a Auris 1.4 D4D Manual transmition, and i bought the bits and install, the cruise control doesn´t worked.

I' ve found this document http://www.thecruisecontrolstore.com/toyotawiring.pdf

it says that a wire between ECU and a conector behind steering wheel is missing, the problem is that this document is for corolla and prius, and the ecu pinout is not the same.

Can anybody check this for me, anyones knows were to find the ecu pinout?

Guys on the russian forum has done it, and everything works fine...

Auris come to russia only with petrol engines, not with diesels. If not working with 4zz-fe (1.4vvt-i), work sure with 1.6 dual vvt.

Maybe and with 2.0 d4d.

Could you post some more clear photos, like the projection onto the wall, view from the front and back etc.

Also a link to cobra site??

I am interested in getting a kit for mine.

Thanks!
