Turn Indicators

hi all

it may be just my auris, but the audible warning on my turn indicators is very quiet.

my hearing at my advanced age is not what it used to be,but with the car in the garage without the engine running if i turn on the indicator i have to put my head very close to dash to hear anything.

the wife who has better hearing than myself says it can hardly be heared.

the two mondeos i had before the auris had loud ones.

i asked at my local toyota dealers and was told there was no way to increase the volume, but that was by the service receptionist so not sure if he would know a lot about it.

some years ago you could purchase a kit for increasing indicator volume but it was more a screetch than a tick type sound.

in traffic when having no time to look at the visuel warning it too easy to leave them on which i have done a few times and this has upset a few other drivers.

if this is the normal volume, has anyone found a way around increasingyhr volume.

advice would be appreciated, but comments about deaf old git would not.

peter.

I purchaced an Auris 2.0 D-4D TR new Sept 07, and straight away found the problem you state, that the audible "ticking" from the indicators was very low, (this will always stay in my mind, as a colleauge of mine who I worked with, left his van's indicators on whilst travelling and came to a junction on a busy A road, when a lady and her two children in a car pulled out in front of him thinking he was turning and he ploughed into the side of her at 55 mph and killed her) so this is why I needed an answer from Toyota.

I took this up with Toyota GB, and got the responce from them saying they cannot alter the noise on the indicator and then threw facts to me qouted from the Govenment road act, stating that "a vehicle only has to have outside visible indicators at the front and back, and does not have to have either visual or audible componants inside the vehicle" basicly it's up to the driver to make sure they turn them on and off.

What can you say, if you have them in a car, why not make them so you can hear them, surely it won't cost a lot to upgrade them!, and my daughter has a ford Fiesta, and that is excellent, very clear even with the radio on, and that's how it should be.

I have now had two buzzers fitted under the dash in place of the "tickers" which are a lot better, but also I have now got a device that is meant to fit onto a motorbike, and that has a delay of up to 20/25 seconds, that will cut in and buzz very loudly to tell you you have left your indicators on, and this neatly fits onto the rear indicator wires in the boot and then to a 12v live wire and the buzzzer fits neatly onto the fixed edge of the rear parcel shelf, it has a very small black box in which you can adjust the time sequence from, and this only costs around £13.

I cannot belive Toyota's attitude towards this problem?

likr you i fitted a louder buzzer near ome one.why dont toyota fit a audible warning thats adjustable.for people who dont like the noise then they can silenced.there several things that come under the heading CUSTOMIZABLE FEATURES in the handbookthis this could be one.yes the warning on fords is far better.
