2004 Yaris 1.0Ltr Clutch Actuator Faulty?

We have a 2004 Yaris 1.0ltr and the hydraulic clutch actuator has started groaning when clutch pedal is depressed.

Have pulled rubber back on actuator arm and sprayed with silicone spray which has after 1 day quietened the groaning down.

Question is, does this mean it is on its way out or will spraying the silicone on it do the trick.

Car has done about 34,000 miles but is used mainly stop start driving in town so clutch is used a lot.

Am worried that seals inside might have had their day and that this is only a temporary "cure"

Don't worry it's not on its way out! It's a common fault on the Yaris(other models are affected also), this happens when the grease dries out on the operating rod, spraying it with silicone will help but it wont be long before it reappears. A longer lasting solution would be to spray the rod with a small amount of white lithium grease or brush on some copper grease either way make sure the rubber bung is refitted correctly as moisture can get in and exacerbate the problem.
