Buying A T180

Well, I been looking around for said car and I have found one quite local to me, It has full Toyota history and still lokks like a new car, cosmetically perfect. Now, after reading about head gasket failure I'm not so sure, should I be worried even though there are no signs of gasket failure under the bonnet. Am I right in thinking Toyota will repair a gasket failure should it happen and as I have Full Toyota s/history?

One other Q can you legally fit a towbar on this model. I have asked a towbar fitter and he says you can't on the TR & SR models but is not sure about T180's. Thanks Bernie.

Why wouldn't you be legally allowed to fit a tow bar?! I'm confused :(

AFAIK Toyota will fix all HG failures on the SR180, but no doubt someone with more know how will point you to a thread where this question was already asked (it gets asked almost every week)

TR & SR models don't have approval for towing. Braked and Unbraked weights are shown on the chassis plate. If not there then they are not approved and VOSA can fine you if you tow a trailer, Same goes for my Fabia VRS, not approved. All a pain in the neck.

Learn something new everyday! I wonder how this affects tow bar bike racks?!?!?!?!

Anyway back on topic, will Toyota fix a blown HG? Check out this thread -

Where does that info come from? You can buy a tow bar from Toyota for T180 and SR180 Auris models???

Kingo

You'll be alright with a bike rack, it's towable trailers that have regs.

That's good to know. It was a towbar/trailer company that gave me the allowed towbar applications.

Wife and I test drove a T180 a couple of weeks ago and we found them boring, no feel in the steering, not as powerful as we thought and so many buttons/switches to fiddle with, are all Toyotas like this now? Still going to buy one, hopefully for the Jap reliability and trailer towing and a bit more space inside.

The T180 I was going to buy has finance problems with the current owner so I'm not buying it, plenty more out there. Now found another, less mileage, factory sat nav and £300 less and will be collecting it next Sunday from ------Glasgow :)

Enjoy the new car.

It won't be as much fun to drive as the Vrs (I speak from experience) but they do pull well and can put a smile on your face if driven on the right roads with the turbo whistling away.

Glad you experienced a Skoda as well, I think the reason the T180 seems slow is it's quieter car allround and the torque is spread wider over the rev. range, does pull well at all revs.

Just not exciting. ;)
