Rav 4 Rain Sensor

Hi, I have a RAV 4 2007 which has auto rain sensor instead of manual intermittent.

It seems the sensor has died .I understand replacement is very expensive.

Can the auto system be by-passed and set to manual operation please?

I would prefer manual intermittent wipe anyway!

Alternatively, any advice where to get sensor at reasonable price?

Maybe Shcm would know Len but I would prefer noral intermittent wipers to my auto ones as well.

Have you tried unplugging it? On some cars without the sensor it defaults to normal intermittent mode.

Hi Bob - it worked! Excuse my surprise! I removed the holder from the windscreen, unclipped the sensor with a tiny screwdriver and took the little sensor box off the connecting wire. Put the box back on the windscreen. Seems fine and works as manual intermittent, with faster/slower. I am really grateful - thank you!!

By the way I checked - a sensor from Toyota is £238 + VAT.

Not sure if it's a common fault, but our has stopped working because it's become slightly 'unstuck' from the screen. If you give it a push it starts working again. Not a long-term fix, but may be cheaper to repair than buying a new part.

Interesting tip on unplugging it - I might well do that in the short term.

On the T180 from 2006. Possibly XT5 too?
