My 54 reg D4D has a single 'silver' coloured valve. You can see it in the enclosed pix, hiding behind the cable loom. I have a spare which i haven't had the courage to change yet, partly as I forgot to get a gasket set at the same time. I had hot starting problems last autumn which went away when I changed the Battery and winter came. Problems 'started' again last week. Pouring cold water on it for a minute and the car starts again so it seems to be a likely reason - there again mr T reckoned my 4 month old Varta Battery was shot when he MOT'd it last week....

Pic of spare part enclosed.

  • 4 weeks later...

Where did you get the valve?

Is it new?

Mine is doing the hot start dance too.

Am I right in thinking these are solenoid lifters, that adjust the pump output?

Solenoids are a common fault on boilers, where they get intermittent faults when hot.
