How Many Miles Can You Get Out Of An Avensis?

I have a 54 plate with 170,000.

I was wondering if anyone has one of these with a lot of road behind it.

It would be helpful to know how long to expect, and what the final failure was.

Mine feels as though it is on it's last legs, but I don't know for sure.

I'm not sure how long an Avensis will last.

By virtue of the fact that you haven't been inundated with replies or tales of woe, I would take that as a good sign. Maybe no one has managed to wear one out yet!

I hope they last a good while. Got a 2004 d4d 2.0.

There seems to be a canny few still on the roads as taxi's.

My 58 plate is now 180000 mls no clutch change yet and no head gasket failure !!!!! two front wheel bearings, two sets of rear bushes, an alternator and a heater control valve £460 ouch !! but overall looking forward to next 100000 mlks.

I have a mk1 T plate avensis on 185,000 gets through mot fine. Need to have a look at why fog lights don't work before this years test but other than that still going strong :)

I did 450,000 kms (~280,000 mls) on a Peugeot 405 diesel in 9 years without major problems, before I traded it in.
I expect a properly maintained Toyota to at least match that, and probably improve on such a meager performance. :naughty:

1998 Avensis, 1.8 7A-FE leanburn engine, GLS, 123000+ miles Running well with only a sticky starter motor when very cold.

Body in very good condition, but need replacement door rubbing strips. Everything works though the sun roof needs a bit of help to slide open - tilts fine.

Goes well on the motorway and on a trip to NEC Focus on Imaging last week plus, local town driving, have done 325 miles and petrol guage is showing just under half a tank!

I will hope to keep it for a few more years, but anything can happen.

Sounds like an advert.

March 2009 D4D Tourer, hit 150,000 miles in November 2012, had to stop using it as it had reached it's lease mileage limit. Gave a colleague a lift in it at end of October, he commented on how smooth it was and lack of rattles & squeaks. 2 things went wrong while I had it, a parking brake actuator failed at 68,000 miles and needed a new clutch at 73,000 miles. I put the clutch down to being lazy and always letting the parking brake self release.

the 2.5 d4d in our hiace vans when i worked for toyota materials handling could reach 250k+ in some of the higher mileage vans and we sold them only due to being 5 - 6 years old and replacing them due to company image .

the vans were in great condition with no major probs

the usual things we replaced in each vehicles life were

service filters

timing belts

ignition barrels due to wear/steer lock sticking

rear axle torsion beam ( bush would wear and rear axle banging on gear change or deceleration)

batteries

heater plugs

tyres

thats it not bad for a service van that had done nearly 300k

and they were sold on instantly for strong money to our asian friends

this proven reliability sold the toyota to me

from now on id only purchase certain mfrs vehicles

jap or german seem to get high 200ks regularly as taxis

toyota/honda/ maybey kia with thier nicer new models and 7 year warranties

wouldnt touch the nissan as it shares the same dci as the renault prone to go wrong after 100k

Have serviced it myself from new. Still driving on same exhaust and clutch. Hope to keep this for at least 250k.

Have heard of Avensis taxis doing 320k+

just sold my old 54 avensis got it with 4 miles on sold it with 247,000 just needed a fuel pump and clutch £650

Iv got a 2004 2.0 d4d tspirit and has 196000 miles on it. Bought it at 193000 miles.

If it lasts till 220,000 miles Id consider it a good buy for £1600

My 2001 D4D Avensis has hit 156,000 miles. The engine starts immediately, there are no mechanical issues at all other than the air conditioning fans are a bit weak (probably due to some leaves that I can't find!). The main issue I'm having is little rubber seals around bonnet / boot doors etc. are disintegrating, but its not really an issue. Looking forward to hitting 200,000!

My collegue is selling now 04 plate D-4D Avensis with 152.000 miles on the clock - still original clutch.

Very clean and good looking car. Starts and runs brilliant. Will hit 200.000 without any problems.

Do automatics also get this same kind of mileage on the original clutch?

My 2008 D4D 2.0 Avensis has now hit 204,000 miles. Engine repaired (new 3/4 engine) at 60 000 miles due to high oil consumption. The repaired engine is still fine without any signs of hg problems or etc. Wonder however for how long the engine will work without any bigger problems. The rest of the car is also still ok but feels like a ticking time bomb.

Known repairs so far:

- heater blower motor 160k miles

- front wheel bearing 180k miles

- alternator at 200k miles

Look no further 35k miles is all I got from my 2nd engine from and fitted by Toyota that's not good in my book.

That's brilliant Kallew, the very reason most people buy TOYOTA!

With regular servicing your car could do twice that mileage and fingers crossed it will :thumbsup: .

When in Corfu 3 years ago, our lady taxi driver had just sold the family taxi.

An original Avensis (not sure of the year but one of the very first shape) diesel that had done over 650,000 kms on the original engine.

Was driven by her, her father and brother on 8 hourly shifts as a taxi.

Never found out why the replacement she was driving was a VW Passat!!

Its a manual. I suppose having the DMF helps?.

I own at 54 Reg Avensis D4D T4 Hatchback.

I believe it has a bit of a factory fitted TTE body kit on it.

It has covered 155,000 miles.

Tyres are 215/45/17

I always warm it up for around 5 mins in the mornings and do the same journey and mileage on a regular basis and always fill the tank up.

I would say 80% is motorway mileage.

I find that if I use BP Ultimate diesel I get around 465-475 miles on a full tank. Computer average reading around 48mpg.

If I use Esso diesel, I get around 44mpg average

Once I used Supermarket fuel and it did not suit my car at all, the numbers dipped badly. I wouldn't touch supermarket fuel ever again.

Long motorway drives get me up to 55mpg average.

I have had my car for 7 years and its never been below 42 mpg average.

I get it serviced every 7,000 miles by a mechanic friend of mine. I do not use genuine Toyota bits for small servicing and have been using Blueprint filters.

for the past 6 years.

Over the 7 years I have had the following done:

EGR Valve at 145,000 miles

Starter Motor 145,000 miles

Timing belt at 70,000 & 140,000

Long life coolant at 120,000 miles

Oil, air, fuel, filter change every 7,000 miles

No clutch or exhust issues. No rattle or vibrations anywhere. Cabin is very quiet and so is engine. Can't see why it won't do 300,000 miles if I continue to use it in the same sensible way I have been.

The only issue I have had was with the air con.

Once there was a major leak and Toyota failed to find it at 2 attempts and just kept changing pipes for no reason. Then I took it to an air con expert who found it within a few minutes.

Also the compressor clutch had issues, that normally requires for the compressor to be replaced at £800. I managed to find another air con specialist who opened it up and fixed it for around £350 with 12 months warranty and thats with full air con system service and re-gas.

Apart from anything that needs doing this car has only required the regular maintenance every year at around £75.

The car has absolutely no resale value now. but the performance, interior and exterior condition would match anything that's even 5 years newer than it, so I wouldn't even think about changing it for a newer car.
