New Engine For The Aygo

The new Aygo has a re-worked version of the current 1.0 litre engine. However, this revised engine will be replaced by Toyota's new 1.0 litre Atkinson cycle engine. Produced in 1 litre 3 cylinder and 1.3 litre 4 cylinder versions, the new engines will be introduced into 14 models by 2015. See -

Will they appear in the Yaris (both versions) and Auris (1.3 version) as well?

If I've read it and done the conversion right it implies that Toyota's new engine could get 93mpg, if true and you're wanting a new aygo then would make sense to hold out 6-12months for the models based on the new engine

Huh, that's weird; Apparently it has the same torque and BHP as their normal 1.0? I wonder how they pulled that off! Normally Atkin engines are super efficient but have bugger all torque!

I'm just simply curious at this point, but when are toyota expected to have this new Aygo available for sale with up to date brochures? Just want to look at the spec levels etc.

The international launch dates for the new Aygo are the 21st and 22nd June 2014 - so we're still a couple of weeks away from an updated website and brochures.

like all of toyota's claims about how fuel efficient their cars are kath has her aygo and round town she returns 45-48 ish / gallon ,i have a lexus ct200h with the atkinson engine round town / motorway driving i get an average of 55mpg but lexus do claim figures of just under 70mpg for mine so still dont believe the fuel figures that we will all be given, obviously when cars are tested they are on a rolling road which doesn't replicate day to day driving so the mpg figures will be better and probably not a reality for most people to achieve.

Not that old chestnut about MPG again surely?

ALL manufacturers are required to perform a standard test by law, it is not run on the road in a real world test, it is a bench test so that everybody is on the same level playing field.

I speak to people on a daily basis about their MPG when they talk to me about wanting a tuning kit. Some people (like myself) can get very close to the manufacturers average. I have sat in with people who say they drive their care carefully, only to find they actually drive appallingly, but they have no idea how to get the best MPG from their car, it's quite worrying really. It all depends on the type of driver you are and the type of driving you do.

New model Aygo are being delivered to dealers by the end of June, sales will be from the start of July, with the main stocks being delivered in August. You will see a major TV and online advertising campaign from 1st July right through to October

It is completely revised and will have some features, like the Sat Nav, that are only available to Toyota, you won't get them in Peugeot or Citroen versions, it is actually a very exciting looking model. I am looking forward to my test day at the end of June

Kingo

hi parts-king

i am not complaining about the milage that we get from our cars i am just saying dont expect to get the manufacturers figures as in one post it mentioned 93 mpg

or you will be dissapointed,as you will know to drive a hybrid in ev mode you have to have a gentle foot put it down a bit and your back on petrol.

Please not that article is from the USA, these engines are not in the new Aygo and there is no talk of it as yet. The yanks also use a different MPG test so the 93 MPG mentioned may not reflect in the UK, but lets hope it does ;)

We all want better MPG, but some people have no idea how to drive to attain better consumption, they still race up to traffic lights and heavy brake. I once went out with somebody to see what he driving style was like and I had to tell him to stop and pull over, he nearly had us killed on a roundabout by cutting someone up and going round on two wheels!! He then blamed the other guy for being on the roundabout, shocking!

The article is one of a number I've seen that quite clearly state:

1). the engine that will be in the new Aygo at launch, is a re-worked version of the existing 1.0 litre engine

2). the new Atkinson cycle engine will be replacing this re-worked engine sometime before the end of 2015.

Any fuel consumption figures quoted use US gallons - which is 0.8327 of an Imperial gallon.

1: Agreed

2: Not seen or heard that officially yet.....but then we never would. A dealer hearing something first? Never

3: Agreed

Guess you've spotted the mixing up of imperial & US

78mpg (US gallons) = 93.67mpg (UK gallons)

60mpg (US gallons) = 72.02mpg (UK gallons)

or to put it more simply the report is quoting a 30% improvement from the new engine development, whether you're a good or bad drive that's a massive improvement

i think this is where the uk has something bigger than the americans and it is the gallon,

the usa has 3.79 ltrs in a gallon and we have 4.55ltrs in a gallon

from wiki

The gallon (abbreviation "gal") is a measure of liquid capacity in both the US customary units and the British imperial systems of measurement.

the imperial gallon (≈ 4.546 L) which is used in the United Kingdom,

the US gallon (≈ 3.79 L), which is used in the usa
